    My honest opinion..I would not even consider this car. There are ALOT of wrong things with this car. You will eventually kick yourself in the ass because this car is a cobbled up POS and there is more wrong than correct. To start with 10k with this car is insane,as it needs that much in parts to make it 1/2 way correct looking. Then,he wont start it or at least take you for a test drive in it..That tells me it's a severe POS. Do yourself a HUGE favor...run as far and fast as you can from this car. I have parted much better cars. Rust issues are expensive to repair. I would put a want ad here or state what you are looking for. What better way to locate a car you want than by using 10,000 people in the same hobby? It's your money and your car if you buy it, but I give it 3 months before you are mad you went that route..It's a buyers market compared to a sellers market right now. Being patient will be rewarding in more than 1 way for you....

    I'm not saying to walk away, but as someone said here money talks. He has a price which I bet is a lot lower than $10k. I know it's been on the lot for at least 1 month and probably more, so you know he's willing to deal. Again, if the price is right it would be a good starter (~$5k or less). Others who have already commented have much more knowledge than me on Buicks, so I would listen to what they have to say.

    Again, good luck.:TU:

    The worst thing you could do is be in a hurry to buy a car ... it usually means ending up with the wrong car. Line up your financing/funding and be ready to pounce when the right one shows up. You're around Houston - the 4th largest city in the U.S. - there are lots of good cars in S.E. Texas and Texas in general. If you are a little more patient, you would be much happier in the long run.

    Beautiful little Suncoupe. I would drop the clown at the car lot and the junker you're looking at in a heartbeat and call this guy with the Suncoupe. Judging by the pictures of both cars there simply is no comparison. The Suncoupe looks well maintained and cared for while the GS looks thrown together from scrap parts. There's a long list of problems/issues with this car. It really is, at best, a $5000 long term project. I say long term because as soon as you fix one thing, something else not on your list will need fixing. It will be a never-ending process unless you have a ton of money to throw at it, and it doesn't sound like you do. Given your situation, this is definitely NOT the best candidate for sole car for the family, even temporarily. Do yourself a favor and get the Suncoupe, trace the short, paint the recent repairs, fix the radio, and be happy. (3 problems. There's more than that with just the driver's side of the interior on the GS) This a rare car in much better shape. Listen to the voice of the board. Buying the GS will teach you a few lessons:

    1. Buying a car from someone who treats you the way this guy has will leave a bad taste in your mouth forever, even after you no longer own the car. You'll always remember it and wonder how badly he beat you on the price or how much he's laughing at you for buying it and you'll never really be able to enjoy the car;
    2. You'll always remember how people told you not to buy it. "I told you so", especially unspoken, has an uncomfortable way of staying with you;
    3. Buying a car in this shape while needing a dependable vehicle will always be in your face. You'll always be throwing money into it and rarely seeing much improvement and in the long run you'll never really enjoy the car;
    4. This car has parts from 3 year models and at least 2 makes on it. How do you know exactly what has been done wrong or omitted? Correcting others mistakes can be costly, frustrating, and never ending. Not correcting them can be dangerous. You'll never be able to enjoy the car.

    Look at the Suncoupe. Buy it if it's as good as it looks and if you can. If not, wait for something better than the GS to come along.

    Here's another one close to Waco (about 100 miles from Houston).

    Although this is in about the same shape, it has matching numbers and is a convert. Restored this one would be worth a hellava lot more than that black and gold GS.

    binaryeyes Oh where can my 'Lark be?

    Yeah the Loan didn't come through..the bank called me about an hour ago telling me I had been denied for not having any credit (Hah, that sucks)

    Well, I guess I wasn't meant to have it. The only thing I really would like to do right now is work on my credit..get something started.

    Maybe take out a small 500$ dollar loan or apply for a gas card. I took a look at the suncoupe and it does look good. Very good. I'm deff going to stick to the v8 forums simply because there is good people here..and I'm in love with the Buicks...though I don't have one. Haha.

    Anyways, thanks a bunch to everyone who took the time to give their opinion in this matter. It was greatly appreciated and I'm sure it saved me from making a horrible horrible mistake.

    Again. Thanks. :grin:

    Just out of curiosity how old are you? You sound awefully green? What made you think a bank was gona lend you 10k for a 40 year old car? Good luck in your quest.

    That eBay 70 GS 350 a few posts back out of AZ seems like a pretty good car for $5K ... original engine (315 HP is a nice engine) ... decent paint and clean body. A car in this condition would make your first musclecar experience A LOT better than the alternative ... and working A/C for you in Houston as a daily driver. This is the type of car that you can find ... with a little patience. Another couple of points of encouragement - first, this is a Buyer's market, so if you are serious about getting a car, this is the right time to buy for you (during the next 3, 6 or 9 mos.). Also, there are quite a few of people who are willing to help you and have already stepped up looking for you. They will likely be the ones to help you find a really good deal.

    The pics on CL are deceiving. I agree, it looks like crap.
