Mine is officially for sale for half- 104.5k. Stage II, four speed... mid elevens all day. Don't ask about the numbers and I won't tell you any lies.
The car in question really doesn't change my valuation of these cars. There will always be a fluke and it will be a very temporary rise in the market if any. The car was nice but look at the pricing for it in the past, it was nowhere near the 200k number. I would be crazy to think that just because that car brought a big number I could run mine through and magically get an extra 25 or 30k for it. There were many factors that went into that car bringing its number.
Yea,.. this car caught two bidders fancy,..for good reason,...but it's an inflated price,..I wouldn't consider it a "value",....5 more stage cars bring over 150k ,...then we have a trend
In the listing it says only 664 stage 1 4-speed hard top coupes. Is that true? I thought they never could lock down an actual number for some reason. Would be nice to be able to tell people that’s how rare my car is if it is true.
664 is the total number of 4 speeds I’ve seen listed whenever I searched for the production numbers. I have a bench seat 4 speed and wondered how many of the 664 were built that way
Ditto on that. bench seat 4 speed a/c p/s p/brakes. Mine was ordered weird I guess. almost loaded with a stick.
There's no breakdown in terms of bench or buckets, color, option load, etc. 664 4-speed Stage 1 coupes is all we have to go on.
Taking into account the slick salespeople were trying to push the bucket interior - and Buick customers had the cash to afford it - the base interior, bench seat 4-speed cars were far and few between.
I have a bench seat 4spd I also have magazine article from I think muscle car review that claims only 4 dozen made that way but donknow where they got that info probably from th÷ man who owned the car in the article.
mine is opposite of yours.. it was ordered non air, power drum brakes with power steering.. someone wanted it to be as cheap as possible or lightweight I'm guessing..
I've had 3 if 'em incl. my current one & being caretaker of Brett's for a short period, which had it been a factory manual steering car I may have kept - I'd have kept it anyway if I hadn't had to sell it to buy my current one but love what Brett has done w/it. Other than PS & color, it's equipped almost exactly as I'd have ordered one new (maybe adding tilt wheel & poss. disk brakes). His is the only one I've had w/manual brakes. His aside, both the others were/are low option (no A/C, manual steering) but did have buckets, disk brakes, Rallye Steering wheel, gauges (one w/tach & one w/Rallye Clock), vinyl top, remote mirror, AM/FM/RS. Old one also had a consolette & F41. On the other hand, both the '70 350 4-sp cars I've had/have are manual brakes/steering, no A/C, bench seat, AM, no vinly top (current one has a painted top). Old one had a fold-down armrest, F-41, & custom seat belts (someone really liked green). Current one has deluxe steering wheel/wheelcovers & remote mirror. Ironically, Brett's aside, all 4 (2 ea. S1, 350) were/are a variation of Sherwood Green & all had/have different tops & interior colors.
I like them basic and was surprised how few were built that way.. go fast with class but I’m a cheap a$$ mentality Sometimes it is hard to part with one to get another, but at least you got what you wanted and know it went to a good home.. I’ve been watching Lord Vaders progress and will be using pictures as a guide. Mine is ready for paint but finishing the mechanicals..
For half that price, I'd sell mine too...but it’s an automatic and not numbers matching and I like it too much to sell.
If a coupe sold for that kind of money. What is my 1970 Stage 1 4 speed convertible better color diplomat blue pearl white buckets white top worth?
However much two guys at the auction want it,.....these sales are what ruins the hobby for most guys,...you get two ballers seeing who's pecker is bigger and then people think their car is worth that,..next thing you know guys want 40k for a clapped out pos,.. because the nice one brought 150k,..there's is 1/3 the car so it only stands to reason their junk is worth 1/3 as much,...not the case
