I would like to see one! Duane, would you please post a picture of your repo GSX steering wheel? Thanks in advance, Steve.
Steve, I don't have any pictures because I don't own a digital camera, but the mold was taken from an NOS wheel so the graining is beautiful. These are the same wheels that all the venders used to sell, until the price of materials and cores got so expensive that it exceeded their published retail prices. I also only produce these wheels when I have enough orders/cores so production is sporadic at best. Duane PS. Maybe someone else can post a picture.
Mark, Nice wheel, but you forgot to mention that this is a picture of a car that NEEDS a correct GSX steering wheel. Aren't friends great. Duane PS. I hope you are not trying to give me that wheel as a core for one of the 2 GSX wheels you are buying, I don't think I can use it.
Duane , with the show taking up so much of your time I never got to get with you to pay for and pick up my GSX wheel . I gave you my core last year so I guess I will have to have you ship it to me I will PM you with my adress . Just making sure I still have one . By the way I stopped by several times just missing you every time . These wheels look great as I knew they would .
Jarrod, what core do you have? I am looking for a driver quality black sport wheel for my 72 convert. If it is a decent one I will pay you the 100$ core charge. Thanks Tim
John, Not to worry, I have a few wheels left from the show, and will be making more next week. If you tried to find me on friday I was judging the concours class and was tied up for most of the day. Then we left early saturday to go home. Tim, I picked up a decent black wheel at the Nats. If you are interested and PM me your info I will send it up for you to look at. If you like it send a check, if you don't like it, then send it back. I try not to cut up original black wheels. Duane
Duane I'm sure you've mentioned it before, but is black the only color you do, and do you do both 16" & 15", or just 16"? o No: Oh Mark, I hope that isn't a "Motion" car wheel. I think it would look good in a Vega though.
Dan, The wheels I make are the 15" 3 spoke wheels and have the thick grip. The grip diameter resembles the 4-spoke 442 wheel, but with a completely different grain. I do make them in black only, however I can make them in whatever color you want. The only thing is the coloring agent comes in 1 gallon quantities and is rather expensive. It would be costly for 1 wheel, but if several people wanted the same color, the extra cost would not be so bad. Duane
Thanks Duane Thats good to know. Roughly, how much is a gallon (in case I find nobody else wanting a thicker Sandalwood wheel diameter). You can PM me if you want. My grain is in perfect shape, but I HATE the thin grip diameter.
Dan, The coloring agent price varies but should be somewhere between $150 and $200 per gallon. As to making a Sandalwood wheel, the base material has a yellowish tint to start with, so trying to make a light colored Sandalwood color would be the hardest, therefore I would not be interested in doing that. If a group wanted some of the darker colors like 70 burnished saddle, or 71-72 med. saddle, then that could be done. Duane
GSX wheelz. Hi Duane! The sport wheel on my 70 GSX 4 speed, has the "typical" top 3rd of the sport wheel broken inside. What I mean by typical is the fact that when BANGIN GEARS usually your left hand is grippin the steering wheel at the top. . all that torque simply busts the metal at the weakest point. . This is where I've actually seen a few broken GSX wheels. So, my point is this. . As much as I hate to give up an original GSX steering wheel, can you still use this one as a core? AND. . I also have a very driedout red sport wheel and possibly another dried out tan wheel as well. So tell me, what kind of a deal will you work with me on these three wheel cores, for one of your repro GSX wheels. . ? You can PM me if you prefer. O&BTW. .do you repro suspension tags/decals for a 65 GS 4 speed convertible with factory A/C and loaded? Wheelz, Tampa Bay
