delivered new to Grant Dean Buick of Highland Park, Illinois. A refurbishment under prior ownership included a repaint in yellow and the replacement of the black vinyl upholstery. Service since the seller’s acquisition in 2022 reportedly involved rebuilding the 455ci V8 utilizing a replacement engine block. Equipment includes a three-speed automatic transmission, a front spoiler, a rear wing, a hood-mounted tachometer, air conditioning, power windows, a push-button AM/FM radio, Rally II-style 15” wheels, front disc brakes, and power steering. This GSX is now offered with a Protect-O-Plate, manufacturer’s literature, and a South Carolina title in the seller’s name.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Anyone here on V8Buick familiar with this car?

Interesting that someone changed the driver side kick panel for one from a non-A/C car. I've often considered doing that to one of my A/C cars too.

    Hi Gary

I spoke to the owner of that car, as I have been looking for a non A/C GSX. The owner told me that originally it was a non A/C car, but the previous owner installed the factory A/C. Hence the mismatched kick panels. I passed on the car as I felt it would be too expensive and labour intensive to convert it back to non A/C.

Previous owner Larry & Karen Miller put A/C on this GSX. It was originally a Non Air car. This GSX was at the last Nationals in the open field.

The BAT ad should be clearer that the A/C was added. That's a very important point to mention.

Good luck with the sale. I don’t think adding factory AC to the car is going to hurt it one bit.

Surprising no one ever ordered the historical society paperwork & the car number? That would reflect non AC .

Ditto with the mismatched AC parts and lack of paperwork. I would definitely recommend getting documentation before attempting to sell a car like this.

Anyone know the Illinois history of this car? Grant Dean Buick was about the only Buick dealership in the Highland Park/Deerfield/Highwood area. When I went to Deerfield High (69-73) there was a yellow one that showed up there on occasion. First GSX i ever saw. But i had heard that it got grenaded at the track. I believe i do know the guys name that drove it, but rightfully so, one cannot read the Protectoplate in the ad. Just curious.

It looks like the original owner lived in Ingleside if that helps.

I agree. I also would like to know with it being such a early date code what number GSX it is. From info given to me on other GSX's this would be lower than 59. To me that would be somewhat helpful in the sale as people love the low number cars. It would be very interesting to know for sure and any extra paperwork on the car in my opinion is a good thing.

Seems to be a lot of confusion in the comments (of the BAT ad) about the air conditioner and rear axle ratio. Documentation would clear that up and you wouldn’t have to spend so much time answering questions.

The seller knows what he has and will hopefully post in the BAT comments section with the full details to clear it up. The car was originally stage 1, TH400, non-A/C, 3.64 gears (ON code).

According to my calculations, this car is likely one of the first 20 built.

    Nothing personal to the bidders around here;

For me, not anyone else - just WAY TOO many non-Buick changes for the price - aftermarket engine parts, undocumented engine work PLUS different block, non-AC switched to AC (with the driver ventilation), the interior needs refinishing, on and on...

Seller talks in riddles and has no docs...

"The car was purchased by my friend 30 years ago and the engine was not with the car then".

$72K and climbing...Another shining example of people who want something so badly - how much of the original car is left?

I think AC and the 3.64 gear are mutually exclusive on a GSX.

Yes, and not just on a GSX. I had a typo, I meant non-A/C. I’ve corrected my previous post.

The seller is making a big mistake if he doesn’t speak up quickly and post a straightforward response that confirms the obvious, the A/C was added.
