Hey guys is the rear glass in a 1970 GS supposed to be flat or curved??? I just ordered a new one and it is curved. Auto City Classics say the glass was always a curved glass my original rear window is and always has been flat? Which is correct

Just installed one on Saturday. It does have an ever so slight curve to it.

It looks flat unless you eyeball the top edge.

Here is a picture of what I have, from top to bottom it has a 5/8 inch bow as seen under the straight edge. It has some bow end to end but not as much as top to bottom. Rear Window.jpg

Yes they are bowed, be glad you found one, are they being repops now because several years ago I could not find any place that did and had to pay up for a NOS and it was pricey!

Glad I built a glass rack and saved a few original windshields and. Back glasses. I have been told by reputable body guys that the repop glass is a real challenge crap shoot. Undersized and fitment issues.

I understand as this repo that Motor City Classics insist is correct has 1/2 in more bow than my original rear window. So the outer edge of the window will rest on the sheet metal and 1/2 in in the window will be 1/8 off the metal. I hope they agree to let me return it but it doesn't look promising.

I did a trial fit on the rear window and the footprint of the glass looks OK, The extra curve in the glass in the car is not as noticeable as I thought it might be. I can see it but I know its there. I am not sure many people will pickup on it when they see the car.

I replaced the orig glass in my '72 GS (except the windshield) with tinted glass purchased from a supplier in the u.s.. They screwed up and sent me an extra driver glass. When I advertised for several weeks, locally, kijiji, no buyers! I binned all the glass except the rear glass which was quite good. I gave it to my brother to sell and in no time he found a buyer a few miles from me. Go figure! I sold the extra new glass to a friend for his '70 ss chevelle.

I just received a new rear window glass for my 70 GS 455 (original is all scratched up, can't get out the deep scratches) from Auto City Glass B3955. I noticed the same curved effect. I originally thought the curve should bow out, but the glass didn't fit as well, it had huge gaps. So I reversed the glass and put the bow in towards the interior.

Questions - Did anyone install rear glass from Auto City yet? Did you put the bow or curve in towards the interior?

Right now I have it preliminary set in the back window and have about 3/4" of curve. And yes, my original rear glass is flat as other's have said. It just has too many deep scratches that won't come out. Spent about 8 hours using Ceriglass/rayon pads and and blew up my polisher.

    Thanks
    Nick

The curve does go to the inside.

Thanks! That’s what I figured since it fitt better that way. Installed now with some butyl ribbon tape and sitting in the sun. Soften it up a little to squish down some more.

I believe the GS, Chevelle, and GTO all have the same rear window opening. However, the rear window of my 69 GTO has much more curve to it than do the rear windows of my Buicks.

I suspect the reproduction companies are only making one glass design and selling it for all three car models.
