The front fender and front bumper didn't escape unscathed either. Bumpers could probably be fixed & so could fender. Hood looks ok. The rocker/floor isn't really caved in so it may not even need a frame. Windshield looks ok so A-pillar probably isn't bent. Not sure if the Left side damage is from a subsequent impact or if the whole rear clip is bent but regardless it's probably not as bad as it looks to fix really. I have a right side convertible quarter & a frame w/the back 12" or so cut off if anyone dares. Might be getting the remnants of a super nice covertible parts car too that would have all the interior structural sheetmetal parts to fix this & top frame/rocker/A-pillar/full frame if needed. If I don't get it I'm happy to tell someone where it is if they need it to fix this car. I'd consider taking it on depending on what it really is (has 350 emblems but could be a clone) & if I didn't have other projects. Would be a fun challenge.
That whole body is twisted into a "C", and if you look at how far the rear driver side wheel sits in the wheel well, you can see that the entire rear body has been slammed over to the driver side. The top frame is bent, the seat frames are bent, and it certainly would have frame damage. It's a column shift 350 car, this isn't even a good parts car. Hopefully it did it's job and got the people out OK. Duane
The only thing I saw interesting about the car was the convertible top switch plate. It looks to have a second switch in the bottom. Maybe for a rear window defogger? There was a real 70 Chevelle SS Coupe hit like that right up the street from me. The car was really nice until I saw it smashed one day. I talked to the owner, and he was going to Home Depot and pulled out onto one of the major roads in our area and a woman went thru a red light and never looked up. She was texting and never saw anything. Her car was totaled, and even with the amount of damage his car took, he still drove it home the 2 blocks to his house. She had a newer import, and she was expected to survive but with major physical therapy. The door on that Chevelle had been hit at the bottom and been pushed in and up. You could put your whole arm in between the door and the sill plate. Her car almost made it into the interior. Duane
Texting and driving.....my worst fear whenever I drive a classic car. I am looking everywhere at all times.....I always leave plenty of room at a stop...between me and that car in front of me. If some one gets on my ass.....I get out and have a word with them. The last time I did....a cop saw me, pulled me over and told me not to do this. I am not above the law! True. But that parent....never taught that kid the proper rules of the road. I blame the PARENTS! I am done with my rant!
At the time I talked with the owner they were still waiting for the girl to wake up, but did expect her to survive. I was trying to buy the motor as I was getting ready to build the motor for Beth's Chevelle, but he already had it sold. The car was totaled and he was getting ready to part it out. Duane
Same goes for riding a motorcycle; classic or otherwise! Watchful eyes get no surprise! Drivers Ed 1971 ws
