7/9/10 UPDATE: This is now listed on Craigslist - http://moseslake.craigslist.org/pts/1834559543.html

    7/18/10 UPDATE: SOLD!

This engine and transmission is what came in with the car, a 1972 Skylark Custom. Both are non-rebuilt, factory original, from what I can tell. There are no modifications. The engine runs strong and clean, with only a hint of oil consumption, which should be normal for a motor that is nearly 40 years old and with just over 87,000 miles on it. There is no visible smoke out of the tail pipes when I mash on the throttle and the valve train is quiet. There are no known problems with this engine. It runs cool and does not use coolant. The transmission shifts as smooth and predictably as it should.

I am selling these items as the car is getting a 455/TH400 combo installed. I will be doing the swap in a few weeks and welcome anyone that is able to stop by and drive the car in person before I begin unbolting things. I’ve included a few HD videos below. Unfortunately, the cold start video I made that shows how well it starts up after sitting over night, is over 275MB; neither Youtube nor Photobucket will accommodate a file that size. Also below are a few photos of the engine. I can get photos of the transmission if needed – just imagine that it is as clean looking as the engine, because it is. If you would like photos of anything in particular, just ask.

Here’s what’s NOT included in the sale: air cleaner, starter, accessories (power steering, alternator, and related brackets), distributor, carburetor, fan shroud, shifter linkeage, and whatever other misc items I’ll need for the 455 (sensors, etc. in the intake manifold). Everything else is included, from the four blade fan to the yoke on the TH350. The original 750cfm Q-jet may be included after I get my replacement 800cfm back from Cliff Ruggles. I’m keeping the points distributor for the 455 (in case I decide to use it).

Don’t want to separate the two unless I have to and don’t have much interest in shipping them. $450 firm for both items. Again, it may be July before they are ready for you to take home as the 455 isn't 100% ready to install. But it's close.

Here's a shot of a cold start. It's actually the second of two starts; the choke was not activated the first time and I wanted it on, so had to turn the car off and do it again. That explains the "instant" oil pressure in this video.

Looks like one of my nephews is going to put this motor/tranny into his S-10. We're gonna take some measurements this weekend to see if it will even fit, but I'll put him first in line for now.

Heck, it runs so good, I'm tempted to just keep it and go buy that Apollo that's been sitting at a local used car dealer . . . maybe even bolt on a turbo.
