I got a Question on 1972 GS head light doors. I was told there are two designs. Can anybody tell the difference in the two designs. Thanks AL.
Al, The '72's GS models came painted around the headlamp opening. I'm not sure if the Skylarks did. The '71/72 are identical except the '72 has a wider vertical molding.
Al's not far off with this question... Here's what he's talking about.... They made 2 designs of 72 bezels, the first was used up until Oct. 71. The 2nd design has a gusset between the openings on the back side. They also have a wide lip on the top edge and outside edge, making them quite a bit more ridgid than the early design... This was passed on to me by a guy I bought some NOS stuff on eBay from a while back. Hope that helps!! Al, it was news to me as well....o No: o No:
As far as I know there are 2 different ones. They look the same from the outside but one is much lighter and has much less structure on the back. They both have the same part number. I think TimR has some pictures, if not maybe someone will post some.
I heard they changed to the design with the wide lip on the top edge because the paint was getting chipped too easily with such a thin lip. As far as color, I had 3 sets of NOS bezels and every set was a different color. So much for NOS quality control. Duane
1972 GS Head Light Doors Thanks for the post guys!!! I have a N.O.S. set and they are the first design. I did learn something today Thanks. I also learned that all 72 head light doors were dark argent Skylarks and GS models not black. Thanks again!!! AL.
