That engine bay looks like something from the 1980's along with the seat covers, the gauges, and the steering wheel? The engine bay doesn't look too crusty/rusty. The frontend shot looks decent. If the lower sheet-metal is good and workable someone got a good deal on this one. Damn! I've been to Iowa twice in the last month and I'm leaving this week for another trip to help my Mother/Stepdad with moving. I could of checked it out, I wonder what part of Iowa it was in. Larry, it was in Estherville IA. Same family owned it since the mid 80's, the dad bought it from the original owner in UT. Original block, was built to 70 Stage 1 specs.

I purchased this car and got it home over this last weekend. I am also new to the site. I am from Wisconsin and it was a 10hr round trip to get it home! Unfortunately it is not the original block, it currently has an SF '70 455 in it, I believe the trans is not original either. It is a V Code Stage 1, however, and pretty solid. It was originally Antique Gold with Covert top and interior.

Thank you! Meeting the previous owner's was great, super nice family. I cleaned it up a bit and am removing the seat covers. It barely runs currently due to bad fuel, although the 79yo drove it 105 miles from the storage unit to their home before I picked it up. Still has good oil pressure so after cleaning the fuel system, new fluids, and a carb rebuild it should run well. Original air cleaner and carb are also Mia. I did however find 3 new in the box cassette players in the trunk, no Creedence though.

    Great score and welcome aboard.

Clean it up, tune it up and drive the wheels off of it.

    Welcome to V8Buick.com

Antique Gold with a Covert top is rare, only 5 made with that color combination. I wish you luck with your new project. The '72s are the best of the '70-'72 models :)

I was not able to get the cowl tag info prior to going to pick up the car, but the inside of the driver's door in the photo looked like Antique Gold. I had found the same chart and could see that no matter what it is a rare car, even if not a color combo I would have picked myself: ) It will be interesting to get the Sloan docs on it to see what other options it had. I know from the cowl tag it was a factory bench car w the fold down armrest as well. Thank you for the well wishes! My last car was pretty much done so it will be nice to have something I can actually work on.

I had never seen one w the covert top, and still have not found a pic. The covert interior appears to have come w a green dash and seat belts? I don't think I have seen that before either. The previous owner said he "pulled the ugly green interior out of it." I was not sure if he was remembering wrong, because I assumed Covert should be beige. But I found boxes w some beige parts and some green parts as well.

Great score. I'm sorry, what is a "covert" top? Is that another name for vinyl roof?

Thanks! I believe it was just their name for a beige vinyl top or interior color, at least in 1972, not sure on other years. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but that appears to be the color under the black dyed top on this car.

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

Later I will post a photo of the Covert vinyl top sample from the 1972 Buick Color and Trim book.

You mentioned that you have a fold-down armrest so you must have the Sandalwood-Green interior. The only other interior with green components is the all-green interior and it doesn't have the fold-down armrest and has the standard interior pattern.

The Sandalwood-Green interior has a mixture of sandalwood and green components as shown in the interior chart on the '72 GS order form. Below is a photo of a '72 GS Sandalwood-Green interior. It is code 133 on the trim tag on the firewall but will be code 243 on the Sloan documents and on the order form.
