1973 Apollo for sale! (Reduced price on 4-1-06)

Blue 1973 Apollo, with original 350 engine (approx. 70,000 miles), 4 bbl carb, and dual exhaust. Single-trak rear end, with somewhat low gears, it has a lot of snap for a 350. I'd guess 3.08 or 3.31 gears, but have never measured it.

This is a nice project car that I'm just not going to get around to finishing. I intended it to be a car for my stepsons to drive at the strip, but they grew up too fast! It has a nice straight body, with some prior repair work. Paint appears to be a one-coat, Earl Shibe type of thing. Looks nice, but don't rub it too hard!

    What I've done:

New rear suspension (leaf springs, shocks, bushings)
Strip, sand, & paint underhood area, trunk area, interior.
New sound deadener, & Gray carpet in interior.
(Carpeted over back seat area, but left hooks in case rear seats [included] desired.)
New bucket seats w/covers, and sliding seat racks.
    New RCI 5-point safety harnesses.
Summit guages for water, oil, amps, and a shift-light tachometer.
    B & M shifter for the Turbo 350 automatic.
Chrome dress-up under the hood. Air cleaner, valve covers, radiator cover.

    What it needs:

Exhaust manifold gaskets!! (God, is that annoying!!) :blast:
Brake master cylinder (pedal goes to the floor!) :eek2:
Door and trunk latch work. (Prior owner "fubar'd" some things installing speakers in the doors!) :Dou:
The windshield has a crack, and eventually should be replaced.
The 4bbl carb opens too quickly, probably needs a new vacuum brake.

    Extras included:

New front suspension in a box.
    New sub-frame connectors.
    A/C delete panel for firewall.
Car has nice (14") rally wheels and Goodrich radials with LOW miles! Low miles on the brake pads, too!

    What it'll cost 'ya:

$2,500, and a trailer to get it home. No way you should drive it with these brakes! If you live within a hundred miles, I can probably bring it to you.

***Reduced!**** Now at $1,500. Come and get it! Going to sell it one way or another, to make some room. Like to have a "Buick lover" get a hold of it! Two weeks from now it goes on Ebay or to a local auction.

    Where it is:

    Monticello, Indiana

Sure, what would you like to see? I'll take some digitals for you of whatever you want.

The link right under "Monticello, INdiana" has several photos of the car, including the re-working of the interior. I'm sad to say I put in a beautiful new headliner, and one summer of sitting in my garage loosened the glue, and it sagged right down! Guess I can justify that A/C unit I've been wanting!

    Thanks

I found the pics on your websight. What I'd like to see is pics of the problem areas. Obviously for the price I'm not expecting perfection. In the pics I can't see any of the rust in quarters, doors or fenders. What about the core support. What rearwend does this have? I don't know anything about these cars/ Does it have a 8.5 10 bolt? 7.5 or what? I noticed in one of your pics, you got the leave on a mustang with your vert. You also had your elbow hanging out of the window. I thought I was the only one to forget to put the window up.

    Ha!

Actually, I did that on purpose, because I knew a friend was photographing it. I rolled the window up as I was running through second gear. Luckily the line guy didn't notice it! As bad as the top balloons with the windows UP, I can't imagine what it'd be like at 110 with them down! That Cobra Jet was a nice car; belonged to a buddy; too bad he sold it.

I'll get some more pics tomorrow when it's light. The rear end is a 10 bolt, and I'll look to see if I can find something to indicate "which" 10 bolt it is. Core support's spotless, and there are a few "bubble" spots on the body, and I can tell it's had some repairs, but there are no visible holes that I recall. Like I say, I'll check tomorrow. The major work will be fixing the locks and the exhaust manifold gaskets. The driver's door outside button doesn't work; it has to be opened from inside. Looks like when the kid who owned it before me put speakers in, he just jammed a sawzall into the door panel, and cut a circle! The door actuator rods have been cut right in half, and re-welded! It does have "uncut" door panels now, though, so that's at least nice in appearance.

have you taken it to the track yet? or are the brakes just that fubar? Is the 350 stock?

No track duty yet for this dude! I drove it for several months back in 1991, but since then, it's been in a garage most of the time. It has 70 something thousand original miles on it, and never been apart, as far as I can tell. When I bought it in '91, I did a compression check, and all of the cylinders were within 8 pounds of each other, but I can't remember what the numbers were. The 4bbl carb and intake are new, bought off another forum user last summer. When I drove it after putting the new carb on, I was shocked at how bad the brakes were. Probably some "dry rot" from sitting forever, but I do remember regularly pumping the pedal to stop back then, so they've been bad for a long time! I was also shocked at how much noise the leaking exhaust manifolds made!

I AM pleasingly amazed at about how well it starts up after sitting for ages. (Knock on wood!) With the original points ignition, you'd think otherwise.

    We want it

    Dave,
I'm trying find out what kind of rear it has. Josh and I plan on this being a father son race car project. If it's an 8.5 I believe we will have a deal. Is the master cylinder the only problem with the brakes or is it leaking somewhere else. We have a locker unit for the rear if it is an 8.5. That'll take care of that open rear problem! LOL. I hope to call you tomorrow to finnish this up.

Can you tell ME how to identify an "8.5"? (Notice that it's PINK!!?? Nice custom paint job by the prior owner. Lots of pink trim. Didn't realize I hadn't eradicated the pink axle!)

    10 bolts

    Dave,
In looking at rears in the Summit catalog. An 8.5 has a round pumpkin and a 7.5 looks to be almost square with rounded corners. Kind of like an old TV screen. Josh says he read that they didn't start using the 7.5's until '77.

Well, this one is definitely more round than square, and looks like all the other differentials I've seen, which were all (except my 89 Mustang) on older muscle cars.

Still for sale; last potential buyer went with an A-Body. (Best of luck!)
