I'm looking for a tilt column for my 1979 Buick Century wagon. Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks
Frankly, you might be better served by buying a rebuilt column by one of the colunm specialists. I had a '78 Le Mans column, auto on column tilt, that was sourced from local pick a part. Turned out internal bowls/ parts unique to tilt were plain worn out, upon dissambley. One cannot percieve mild to moderate wear, with absolute certainty, until column is torn down. There are several column specialists, one is "Columns Galore" in the NYC area.
Probably quite a few in one of my local yards near me in SC. His prices are very reasonable Google Maps near McColl SC
Also, one of the big issues with tilt columns of this time-frame was the screws/ bolts that hold the tilt assembly together frequently back out, and you do NOT want one of them to come out while driving. That little bolt for some reason seems to find the universal joint/ pivot mechanism and lock up the column. It happened to me on one of my 1987 Turbo Regals when the car wasn't yet ten years old!
