So I go out of town for the weekend on friday and would'nt you know it, An R&L carriers truck pulls up to the shop with a special delivery. One of my guys gets the first peak at the first ever all aluminum 455 Buick engine block. This is of course the now infamous Bulldog block. This one is being built as a 573 ci street engine. I will try to post some pics on wed or thursday. No doubt, this is an impressive block. Jim Burek p.a.e. enterprises
Good to see the ball is starting to roll on these. I am sure there will be many happy people in the near future. :TU:
Are the cylinder sleeves in it now? Jim, not to take the "first peak" thing away from you, but Dick brought one over to the Finishline Motorsports pits for display at the Buick Horsepower meet. Glad to see it being put to use!!!
What does it weigh? Also is it a one of a kind or will more be manufactured? How much will a bare block run?
There will be more. It should be right around 135 pounds, I'll weigh it today. The alum block is $5250. Jim
Well.......Where are the damn pics????? :Brow: :Brow: Weren't you ever told to share in school??? :Smarty: ....
Block! I got a good look at it at Indy. Actually I helped Jeff move it from the trailer to a spot in the pits so all could see it. It didn't have the liners in it then and was not so heavy. I would like to have that many inches if I had some heads that flowed 500+ on the intake. Then that would be a package. Jim N.
Jim, do you think you could use this block for my stroker build your doing; instead of the block I provided you for my original estimate?
Just an observation, but a cast iron Pontiac 455 block weighs 183 lbs, so I would imagine a Buick 455 is around that. Only 53 lbs savings? I'm being sincere; is it worth it? o No:
53 pounds weight savings for a block that is vastly superior to the stock block, can go out to 573 cubic inches and can handle something like 2000 horsepower. Uhm..yea, I'd say thats worth it. :Brow:
