Well the rain in the north east stoped long enough for me to get some passes in this year and it was about time due to it raining on and off I only 3 passes in at Lebanon valley dragway my best time there was a 10.60 123 With the new hood and front brumper and anti sway bar and a shifter that I kept shifting from 1 to 3 the still ran 10.41 129 so I can't wait now to go to NED and find 2 gear!!!!

    Mike,

Great job! How much weight do you figure you took out? Did you weigh the car?

    John,

Great job on your times. I'm curious, did you dyno your motor? any idea on the power curve? Just curious where the curve relates to your shift points and your rpm at the end of the track.

What size converter are you running? is that a 9?

    Thanks
    Michael

    Mike,

Coan 9". Flashed it at 4800. I'm still playing with the shift points. Anywhere between 5800 and 6200 RPM. Thru the traps at about 6300 -6400.

I did dyno the motor. 605 HP @ 6200 RPM. Peak torque was 572 at 4700 (I'm going from memory on these numbers. - Should be close).

    John,

Although I'm in the Olds camp, our combos are very similar, right down to the Iron heads and steel car. On the engine dyno, my motor with a bad carb, wrong length pushrods (too short) and 1 7/8 headers hit 600hp at around the same rpm as your HP with about 620lb ft of torque at again the same rpm as your peak torque.

I'm stepping up to a 29-30 inch tire (car has a ladder bar rear suspension) but I think my 10 inch converter is going to need to go to a 9inch to get the stall where I need it.

I nearly have the car road worthy and then I'll have it on the chassis dyno to see if all the changes I made since the dyno run, help improve things.

If my car runs as good as yours, I will be a happy camper indeed.

I weighted the car with me in it was 3470 i'm only 180 so I think i lost about 170 lbs off the car!!! Now just looking for 2 gear!!! :Brow:

    John,

What is your suspension like? are you running a transbrake, or launching it with a foot brake? around what rpm are you launching it at?

    Sorry for all the questions.

You'd appreciate John's car......Very similar to yours in build and craftsmanship.

    Mike/Dubuick:

Nice work on the diet. I think I'm going to try to get a little creative reducing some weight prior to going the fiberglass route. At the NATS I weighed in at 3715 with driver. I won't get on a scale without being in a car... I'd guess over 230 of it is me. :beer Keep me posted when you find second gear.

    Gary:

Thanks for the post and good words. I think I'm hooked on the pro tree. I'm starting not to like you...

    Michael:

The tires on that pic are M/T 28X10.5W. My current ones are Goodyear 30X10.5 on 10" rims. It is not mini-tubbed, however the quarter is rolled, inner wheel house "massaged", and a little bit of surgery performed. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=73136
I haven't quite figured out the best point to launch at. Currently I'm leaving at 4000RPM. I've left with good results up to 4600. The car didn't seem to like 3600. Norwalk hooked the hardest. Rt66 in Joliet Illinois came a close second.

Maybe its just the shading but those tires look huge. I'm going to start with MT 30x9s on a 10inch rim with 5 inch of BS and go from there.

Im pretty sure I will need to drop the converter from a 10 to a 9 and I would be a lot more consistent with a transbrake but the budget is blown for this year.

    Dubuick,

Would going to a transbrake change your class or anything within CMDR? I know you guys have your own races, I'm just not real clear on how the classes work.

    Nice ! ! !

I think it looks good just the way it is. :TU: The black hood gives it a nice tuff look. Nice et too! A little spray would put you in the 9's . . . . . . :Brow:

When I go to my Victor intake I'm will have no choice but go to a cowl hood. The bitch of it is, the whole front of my car is done in ghost flames which the guy who painted the car says are nearly impossible to match with a new hood, so guess who will also be running a black hood? :)
