After about 1500 miles my 200-4R developed a shifting problem. It started out shifting early or late and the lockup quit working. Then it straightened out sort of but it was staying in 1st too long. I stopped for a break and when I took off it wouldn't shift out of 1st. I trailered it home and pulled the pan the oil looks great no smell or discoloration. Checked the governer it looks good. The shift cable adjustment is fine. I can get it to shift but I have to turn about 4 grand to get it to shift out of 1st but the shift to 2nd is normal doesn't want to shift into 4th. If it does the converter srill locks up????????? Any ideas out there. Could it be in the valve body? How difficult are they to change? A lot of questions I know. Thanks in advance. Bob H.
It sounds like a valve body problem. They are easy to change. A large drain pan helps with the mess. If you don't have a lift, you also have a fair chance at a complimentary oil treatment for your hair. If you warm the oil up first you can get a hot oil treatment and make the women folk jealous. Just an added bonus :TU: The important thing to remember with this is cleanliness. Any little debris will cause valves to stick so everything needs to be super clean.
:laugh: Thanks for the tip. A friend of mine who has some tranny experience thinks it may be the valve body also. I've had the pan off once already but didn't include the oil treatment for the hair.:laugh: I don't think the wife would approve of red hair.:TU:
