I'm having some trouble and I wonder if y'all could steer me in the right direction? Bowtie 200 4r level 2. I took pressure readings after initial adjustment of the tv. They were normal in every way according to every online source of info but it wouldn't downshift. So I readjusted the tv sheath, grabbed the end of the cable with needle nose pliers and pulled the tv plunger to it's full out position. I then opened the throttle to WOT and locked the cable in with the set screw. Now the idle pressures are way up. 130 psi in park and it's a 40-50 psi increase through all gears at idle. The trans downshifts very well now but what I'm afaid of is I now have too much tension on the tv at idle. Some other symptoms are a real neck snapping 1-2 shift. A hard 2-3 shift and an early 3-4 shift (I feel it's early). It's only in 3rd for 1 second before it shifts to 4th. I'm using the original carb but I removed the throttle arm and replaced it with a 73 caddy arm. Ken @ everyday performance said the arm looked like it would meet the requirements after seeing pictures. The tv cable travel is in question here. (1 3/8" actual) I believe its supposed to travel 1 1/2". Any less tension and it won't down shift anymore but the idle pressures dropped back to normal again. So, I believe I have the wrong geometry happening here. I measured the throttle arm tv mount in relation to the center of the throttle shaft and it was approx 1". I've got an 1/8" less than recommended and that correlates with the 1/8" deficit in travel of the TV. I'm missing something simple I hope. Am I splitting hairs here? How can I get the 1/8 back. I don't have a cable stretcher. Is there a trick to adjust without replacing the throttle arm? Is it possible to have the tv cable ratcheted too far? That could be an issue also. Any suggestions Please?

The cable arm is definitely the problem if it is only an inch long. I got a throttle shaft and arm from a car that came with a 200r4 and Quadrajet. I got tired of the guess work that comes with adapters. Good Luck Bob H.

I know they cam on 86 Chevy Astro vans with a Q jet and 700R4 as I had one, they also come on 88 Caddy Borughams witha 307 olds Q jet and 2004R, also other vehicles with Q jets and either a 200 or 700 trans.

After replacing the throttle arm and readjusting the tv cable. I'm happy to say my pressures are normal at idle now and it downshifts like it should too. My pressures at idle before were P-130 R-200 N-130 D-130 3-130 2-200 1-200 Now they are P-90 R-240 N-90 D-90 3-90 2-240 1-240 The problem was the geometry which restricted the TV cable travel. With the new throttle arm the travel is now 1 1/2". I'm very pleased with the results and I must say my car will flat out "get it" now! That tranny really brought that 350 to life.
The same exact arm in pics posted by rmstg2 earlier in this thread. I just altered it a little to accommodate a forward throttle return spring and a more forward accelerator cable connection point. I didn't have an adjustable one like he had.
