I have a 71 Skylark with a 350 and the aforementioned 200 4r. This is my first time building anything automotive so please excuse my lack of knowledge. The 350 went together vary nicely and seems to be running well but i cant get the 200 to do anything at all. When i select any gear on the column it does nothing. Not a lurch, squeak, groan, or a drop in RPM. When i give it some gas it just revs like in neutral no matter how much i hit it. The linkage is working properly from what i can see with the pan off and it will also take park normally. I also pulled the outbound line off the auxiliary transmission cooler and have plenty of line pressure as far as i can tell. I have also tried a new filter and fluid to no avail. As for the TV cable goes, i simply hooked it to my holly 4150 expecting to set the tension when i found out if the transmission was in working order. The car has been setting for the past 6 years or so and the only thing i have done to the trans is put in a boss hog NON lock up 2500 stall. I tend to think that i have made a mistake in the converter selection whether it be the non lock up or the wrong spline count. The converter did go on like i was told it should and lined up with the flywheel. I will be pulling the transmission on friday and would appreciate any ideas. Im sure i am missing some info that would be of use to all of you and i will try to answer any questions to the best of my ability. Also, sorry for the long post and poor grammar for i not educated good.

Dumb question but: Ar you sure its full of fluid? A new convertor needs a lot to fill. Even a qt low and it won't move...

I wonder if you broke the pump by not seating the converter all the way.

All of you raise good points.

As far as the fluid goes, it is a good question, and i thought that was the initial problem. That led to the new filter and plenty of fluid. I added a little at a time while the car was running and gave it time to circulate. Still no go.

The TV cable is still something that i have not ruled out as a screw up of mine. I thank you for the link for i have not run across that site in my googling. I have not had the time to give it a look, but will go and look at that when i am done here.

When it comes to the converter seating properly. I was told that it should go on and turn and go and turn and go. Sorry if i am describing that poorly. If the pump was broken, would i still have a good amount of fluid flow through the line?

Thank agin for the replies and i will try to keep you all posted as this gets figured out.

Make sure you buy the right kit to make the TV cable work on your carb... This is the leading reason of dead 2004R trans, people not getting the geometry correct.

Usually if the converter isn't all the way in the pump you can't turn the converter or it is hard to turn because it is rubbing against the flex plate.
If you had a little space between the converter and the flex plate chances are the converter is seated properly. Good Luck.
