Going to look at two cores next week. Both behind 307 Olds (carburated). I can get the TV cable. What else should I look for? When I check the valve body #s, is one better than the other.

    Thanks for the help guys

get the throttle cable bracket, it should be the kind that hangs off the rear carb bolts.

Grab the Qjet too, it will have the TV cable arm hanging down off the throttle arm. Buick Qjets dont have this provision so they need to be modified to accommodate the TV cable. Or you can swap out the primary throttle shaft for one with the provision.

Look for the factory T/C lockup connectors and wiring. There should be a lockup switch thing on the manifold IIRC with vacuum line to it as well.

My 200r4 is from behind a 307 Olds and it was a code OG. In stock form they are good behind a stock 350 I hear.

My 350 is modded so I did a lot of the common performance mods to my OG coded 200r4. CK performance shift kit and governor mods were the best bang for the buck I spent. Oh and a D5 Grand national T/C.

The commonly accepted best 200r4s were from the Grand Nationals, coded BRF

Monte SS also had a nice 200R4 in it but I forget the code.

The big differences are the shift qualities and shift points.

But you can make -almost- any 200r4 into a performance 200r4 with the right parts.

If youre considering it, I highly recommend CK Performance's rebuilding book as a source for everything 200r4. Chris is a great guy, very helpful even just on the phone.

Craig, sorry I know nothing about these transmissions, but in your search for info the correct designation is 200-4R. I've made the same mistake several times.

Sorry Devon, correct designation is 200-R4. Although you often see it the other way.

I think the Monte Carlo and 442 trannys were code CZ. They have a little higher shift point.

KC coded trannies are good too from what I hear...

You may want to recheck that. My sources seem to conflict with yours.

Marc, you may be thinking of the 700R4 (no dash, go figure).

I know, its confusing. Thanks GM.

Well, I have picked up the trans. I have some numbers and am hoping everyone can help determine what I have. There were 3 or 4 to choose from. Unfortunately none were in the cars, and the cars were not available. I was able to get the carb bracket, TV cable, the complete trans with the converter, dipstick and the rear mount bolts. Here is the numbers:

Metal ID tag on the trans
    CZ F
    215881CZF1340

on top of the trans casing (cast in)
    4 07
    X G

Paper tag on the face of the TC
    CBBF
    8653400

Thanks in advence for any help.

The fella I picked it up from had a '85 or '86 Regal Limited, and was installing a 403olds engine with the TH350. 90% original paint, and the car looked really good. He had a couple of custom dress up items, like a stainless steel rad cover that allowed for mounting of twin cooling fans. I guess it helps he works as a fabricator and has access to a CNC machine.

Should be the Monte Carlo SS tranny which is one of the good ones. Stock this will shift around 5500, a little higher than the GN BFR trans. I have a CZ code trans and have run 12.42 with it.
