I decided to swap a 2004r for the summer. its fresh from the junk yard and bone stock down to the converter. Its acting kind of weird. I have the cable adjusted right. It shifts beautifully. at WOT, it shifts right around 5400. but, if I nail from a stand still, the tires instantly go up. and the motor hits the rev limiter and doesn't shift, (5800). am I smoking this tranny? could it be trying to shift but not able to?

    I know, it'll never last.

Yeah, thinking you killed the 2nd gear clutch-pack. when you let off it goes into 3rd. I forget where the band fits into all of this, but smoking the band is also common; the big servo is a must-have.

count the number of shifts when running through the gears manually.

Band is for 2nd gear. It will still shift, 5400 rpm is high for a 200-4R to have for a WOT shift unless it is a performance core from a GN, Monte SS, etc.

If you did a "burnout" and it quit shifting out of first, you probably popped the governor spring, but if it still works OK and just wouldn't shift on the burnout

You may have to take a click or two out of the TV cable adjustment.

What are the "Lester" numbers on the side of the servo cover? last three digits, like 692, 694, etc

This is what happens. if I ease into WOT, it shifts. but if I just nail it, nadda. The tranny is from an 88 caprice. Its a relatively clean case, and the fluid looked/smelled good. :Do No:

Take out 1 or two clicks of TV and it will probably work. It sounds like you have too much TV pressure to have those shift RPMs anyway.
