    Woodmaster Five Bufords....

First of all, hats off to everyone who made the effort to bring a Buick to the GS Nationals. A real hats off to the folks who drove their car there. This was my 17th year in a row and every year people ask me where all the Buicks are. Every time they ask, I end up finding out that the Buicks are home in their garage...they somehow always think that everyone else should make the effort to get the Buicks here. To anyone who saw Roger Sears' black '65 GS 4 speed, that car was driven from near Davenport, Iowa. It is a show car in every resepect but was driven 8.5 hours to get there. I'd like to take a poll...hopefully, I'm doing this right.

Did you go to the 2008 GS Nationals? yes or no
Did you bring a Buick to the GS Nationals? yes or no
If yes, did you do so without putting forth some extra effort? yes or no
Did you bring an older Buick or GS? yes or no
Did you bring a Turbo powered Buick? yes or no
Did you "drive" a Buick to the GS Nationals? yes or no
Do you have more than one "classic" or Turbo Buick? yes or no
Do you have more than two?yes or no
Do you have more than 4? yes or no
After leaving your Buick at home, did you comment to anyone about how there were not many Buicks there? yes or no
If you trailered your Buick (and it was not a race car), would it have gotten better MPG if you had driven it than your truck and trailer did? yes or no
If you trailered a Buick there, was it outside the trailer for more than 7 hours during the whole week?
If you were there, did you mistake the event for a Duramax show or a truck and trailer show? yes or no
Did you run your car down the strip? yes or no
Did you go cruising around the hotel parking lots in the evenings? yes or no
Did you go to dinner with friends most evenings? yes or no
Are you keeping your Buick in its current condition for someone else to enjoy after you die? yes or no
After taking this survey do you feel you should sell your Buick to someone who will enjoy it? yes or no

    Thanks

Yes, we went to Nats (and have for the last 5 years)
We actually brought 2 older Buicks
Bringing 2 does take a bit of extra effort (not to mention 3 dogs:Dou: )
No turbos in this stable (yet)
We drove both cars roughly 3 hours one way
We have 3 but only 2 drivers :(
Did not race (not that I don't love to, just don't have the extra money for broke parts)
Cruised a little in the evening and ate with friends on Friday
Hopefully my 2 sons will retain them after our demise.

Overall, we had a wonderful time and probably annoyed everyone within ear shot of the 3 pound viper that masquerades as our yorkie "cilla"

First GS Nationals for me. I had a great time. I think I get your drift :TU: For what little I did to go it still was expensive. Is this Roger's car? PERFECT! Brian

This was my 19th consecutive year to attend this event and I don't think I could handle NOT bringing a Buick. I drive 550 miles one way to attend this event and will continue to attend as long as there is something to keep me going. Being able to visit with the many friends from around the country I have made over the years is the biggest reason to attend. The racing, show cars and BG are an added bonus. Winning once in a while helps too. I rode shotgun in 1990, drove my convertible the next 10 years and trailered the rest. This was the 1st year I did not drive the car some on the street while in BG mainly due to the weather.

    Yes I own the '64 and 2 '72 Skylarks
    Yes
    No
Yes I noticed the car count was down
I did race my car so I towed it, mpg was not an issue. I towed it so I knew I could get it home if I broke it
Yes more than 7 hours and my trailer is a flat bed (open)
I was sure where I was the whole time and my truck is an 8.1
    Yes I raced
    Yes I cruised
Yes we met friends from Tennessee and they attended the Nats. on Friday
No I drive my '64 like it is a Camery...EVERY DAY...!
    NO..ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!

I have attended the last 12 events but this is the first year I brought a car. I won't be back without one and I will be in attendance probably until they are no more. Attendance was clearly down, I figure it was the rain and gas prices.

We've been away for a few years with our move to AZ and our son's autism issues. We've been coming since 1987, and always drove the Wildcat GS 1400 miles each way, raced her, showed her and drove her home. We did just spectate one year and although we missed having our car there, it was good to be able to walk around and see everyone else's cars show and race. This year, because of what we brought, a lot of people came to us to say hi. This was good as we had our boys with us this year.

We had a great time and will be there next year. For those of you not having the cash, have you thought of doing a "vacation" club where you put a little cash away each week in the bank? We saved coin all year for part of the expense. The camp ground... yes it was wet... saved big $$$. It cost us only $100 for the four nights. It's $125.00 for the week. A lot of us stay there and get together until all hours and shoot the bull.

Went for first time in 20 years and had fun . Met alot of people from the Board. Trailered a car that was sold and needed to get there. Can't drive my GS yet so that's not an option. Swapped stuff , bought stuff , and delivered stuff needing rebuiling . Sold a rear end and took it that far , then John ( injected nailhead ) picked it up from there and is taking it to a Member out his way . I can't think of anything I missed out on. I bought used parts , repro stuff and left happy . I'll go again and take my car when it's finished .

I just wanted to say the Buick Nationals for me was just ok.
It needs a better pay out or prize for the bracket cars and other classes to draw a better turn out for these days and times.

    Thanks Billy.

I drove from Atlanta to B.G. on Wednesday and arrived at the track just as the staging lanes opened. Quickly unloaded the tools and luggage, paid my registration and started making passes. Went from high 14's to 13.86 on radial T/As as driven in. Got a sreaming deal (thanks for spotting them, Nick) on a pair of slicks and with traction got down to 13.56. Enjoyed communing with my extended Buick family from Texas, Maine, Michigan, Indiana, and wherever else we're all from. So---yes, I drove, same as every year since '94. No, I don't have a turbo car. I want one as a driver, but I'll still drive my '68 to the nats even if I have to sleep in it to do
it. Thanks for all the hospitality and friendship to 'Berta, Dave (Mr. Wheelstand), Dave H., Wild Bill, Jim R. and Beemer, and everyone who makes this trip a neccesity, not a luxury.
Props to Nick Sloop--He got me into this nearly twenty years ago. He drove from Houston this year in his '70.

Rumor is, the BG track surface is currently undergoing a resurface job due to the large number of passes made during the week by a certain maroon 70 GS with Houston Texas plates. Nick is a madman driving the car in from Texas, beating on it all week long, and then driving it back to Texas. Nick is always enjoyable to be around. Congrats to Nick for his showing in BSA this year.

Thanks again for making it to BG, and swap out those headers and run with BSA next year. We need your '68 in the class.
