I'm thinking about putting the 200R4 back into the Electra to help in the highway cruising and gas mileage areas. Trans fluid leaks from the bottom where the pump attaches to the transmission case. I am hoping that replacing the seal and the gasket behind it will solve the problem. Does anyone know if I have to have the transmission vertical (tail down) so when I pull the pump assembly out the guts will stay in place. I have a GM manual but it doesn't mention that the trans needs to be tail down in order to do this. Thanks, Greg
It is easier with the tail down. After you remove the bottom pan (you need to take some parts off from here to get the pump out), you can drop the tail end into a 5 gallon bucket.
What parts do I need to remove from under the pan? The GM manual doesn't make any reference to that. I want to make sure that I do this all in proper order and correctly so I don't damage anything. Thank, Greg
You need to remove the filter to get the pump out. It directly "plugs" into the suction side of the pump. While you are at it, upgrade the front pump with either a 10 or 14 vane pump and a heat treated stator support. Ken
You must remove the filter and the lockup solenoid to remove the pump from the 200-4R. A 10 vane pump has move volume than a 13 vane but either works well.
Listen to Jakeshoe, he's the man when it comes to transmissions. How'd you make it over to this site Jake?
I get around I don't even remember what it was, must have been a link to here from another site. A TH400 is a Th400, whether it has a Chevy case or a BOP case.
