Curious if any of you Buick folks that have a Jeep disease are headed to Moab, UT for 2024 Easter Jeep Safari? Below is my schedule if anyone is headed out. (It's a LONG ways for some folks but we get people from everywhere every year) Saturday 3/23/24 Hells Revenge Gunner Sunday 3/24/24 Poison Spider Trail Leader Monday 3/25/24 Sophomore Package 1 Dome Plateau Trail Leader (I've got an awesome group of gunners) Tuesday 3/26/24 Sophomore Package 1 7 Mile Rim Trail Leader (same gunners and same participants as Monday) Wednesday 3/27/2024 Sophomore Package 1 Fins and Things Trail Leader (same gunners and participants as Monday-Tuesday) I'll be in my cute little deezel Gladiator (most likely) if anyone can identify that in the sea of late model Jeeps that will be cruising around town. Gold/bronze wheels and 3 antenna... I'm sure I'll be easy to find . (picture is from 9300' on 1/1/2024)
I have SO MANY ducks (not really---most of us don't understand the whole duck thing but people seem to mean well by it so I'm cool if it makes them happy)
I'd enjoy bringing my Buick V6 powered flat fender ('52 M38, T18, 5.38's), just too many travel days from New England. We visited Moab 2 years ago and spent some time on the slick rock, including Hell's Revenge. It is a very cool place everyone should visit at least once. Amazing country. Enjoy the adventure!
I would love to attend EJS. Show those Jeeps that they are not the only capable off-road machine. LOL
Easter Jeep Safari is not limited to just Jeeps. Bring it! (I've wanted to take a 5.0L Explorer and swap in some F350 axles for years---probably never happen but it'd be kind of a cool rig) The insanely spinning tires on a public road kind of piss me off. The trails definitely show this type of "rock bouncer" approach the past 10ish years.
Ran into some of your friends over the weekend. Strange they are pulling a tow strap out in the turn lane? If you have a Jeep or other 4x4, come out and enjoy while the .gov allows us to use these 150+ year old roads/trails. SUWA, Sierra Club, etc are NOT interested in allowing folks to access these routes via motor vehicle. We are not near as well funded and organized as those folks are.
Looks like a great time! I'm an East coaster but have been to Moab 3 times for mountain bike trips. I've done the White Rim trail and The Maze on guided tours and another trip with friends for a sample of various trails over a week. Moab is an incredible place and so much different than eastern terrain, it was a memorable experience to say the least. I haven't done much off-road in a truck but finally got a 2 dr Bronco Sasquatch last July. Hoping to do some adventures this coming year! Sad to hear many of the Moab trails are facing closures....IIRC it may be 1/3 of the present trails?
I have yet to do the White Rim or "The Maze" (at least as most people do it). Super cool areas for sure. Bring the Bronco out! I had one of them on the trail for 3 days. Awesome folks being guided/spotted down by my 24 year old son (who has 22 years+ hanging out on these trails) In the latest assessment of the Labyrinth Canyon area, we did lose 317 miles of trails of almost 12oo miles of inventoried. This is just one of the sections of TMP that are happening in/around the west. These folks tout it as a great success (https://suwa.org/labyrinth-canyon-travel-planning-a-new-opportunity-to-solve-old-problems/ ), but they literally make their living off of suing our .gov. In the 2008 plan that that article references, there were significant closures but not enough for those with the cash to sue the .gov. Here's a decent local article https://www.deseret.com/utah/2023/9...-could-close-gemini-bridges-labyrinth-canyon/. Unfortunately, there are MANY more TMP coming along with a few comments ongoing. For those of us that want to continue to have responsible motorized access for all it's tough to keep up with folks that don't have a 9-5 job or their 9-5 job is simply to eliminate motorized access and make everything in Utah non-mechanized (that means restrictions on pedal bikes and e-bikes as well) The "master plan" of the non-motorized folks. They're getting their way by "compromising" with each review. The Labyrinth canyon is exactly west of Arches NP on the map. Supposedly that are was to be left alone originally. Here's more information than anyone is going to want but it's what's really happening. (good thread on my local 4x4 bulletin board if someone wants to really dig in---definitely a one sided perspective https://www.rme4x4.com/threads/rr4w-urgent-alert.119876/) Actual closures are in red some of which I actually support. I'm probably supportive of about 40-75 miles of odd spur routes and such. Come out while you can. Give me enough of a heads up and I'd be glad to show folks around. The way things are going, you'll need to be able to hike about 40-50 miles into some areas to see what you'd like to see. Minimum hikes will be 4-5+ miles. Some of us just can't and are not interested in doing that. The opposition couldn't care less for disabled folks, it's all about the Patagonia/REI folks with the extremist views and dollars
