21-24 GM 6.2 issues

I had a 14 Escalade ESV totaled by a hit and run, probably stolen, and driver possibly under the influence in fall of 2020. My insurance was great, but at that time there weren't any good replacements available. Wanting to get back in a full size SUV but what I've seen on the 6.2's is really not good. Does anyone have the list of vin's impacted? I've seen reports of many with under 2500 miles need a replacement engine. Is it the type of issue that if you don't have the issue in a certain amount of miles you're probably safe? Just stay away? The AFM issues in earlier ones isn't and more reassuring either.

Thge 6.2 is in the Caddy's, Yukon Denali's and High Country Suburbans and Tahoe's.

Saw a 12 with decent miles and history but the dealer started playing games with the price when it came down to closing the deal.. The must have packages, that took it from an OK deal to never never land, especially on a 12 year old car.

Anyone with experience with this engine and associated issues?

Larry the reason I sought out a six two gas 2008 only was because it didn't have that deactivation/ direct injection on it.
Has been a solid whip all around.

Friend of mine was a GM dealer General Manager for 20yrs...retired 3 years ago....he told me the 6.2s he seen go thru his dealership were 90% of the time rattled apart by detonation

I have a 2022 ZR2 Silverado 6.2. So far 25,000 miles with no problems. Truck is a beast, I get the 'LOW TRACTION' warning in the HUD all the time!
I belong to a ZR2 Forum similar to this one, there is a poll posted about lifter failures which is the problem with the 6.2... 92% no problem, 8% have had problems...
If the motor fails, GM will replace it.

I also have a '12 Avalanche with the AFM, motor lost oil at 24,000... GM fixed it, still going strong.... I think that is a 5.3 though...

Seems to be if you have lifters go bad, you have lifters go bad! If not, you don't!

We have the 3 ltr duramax (mini max) in our 2021 1500 crew cab. Our next suv will have the same engine, its quiet, sips fuel, pulls like a diesel with same torque # as the 6.2. We have had many vehicles with 6.2, great engines but our 2016 tahoe is hard on fuel. One of our half tons with 6.2 dropped a valve, our Escalade took out a cam bearing. Needless to say, we really like the new small diesel

Hey there's always the 7.3L yup...hearing good things about it except for mpg. Bosses 2021 6.2L sent the rod through the block on family vacation 4k on it. 8% fallouto_O, that's horrible.

Thanks for the input. Agree that 8% failure - meaning needing new engine, even under warranty is horrible. The low milage that the engines fail at is also very concerning. Wonder if the 25's will have the issue addressed. A new diesel is coming too, but we'll see. Sounds like risking any 6.2 out of warranty is asking for trouble.

I've seen the issue with the lifter failure on previous generation. I think GM changed from AFM to DFM for the 18 model year. Sounds like it's a design issue and not a manufacturing one for the 6.2L with a VIN series of problem engines.
