For those that don't know the '67 GS400 used a FoMoCo top loader 3-speed that looks like the unit in the photos below. Good luck with your search Gary. Sheet 7-4.1 from the '67 assembly manual labeled "Floor Shift (3-speed Manual)" "Transmission Control, Information Assembly"
I have a 1970 455 Buick Super Muncie 3-speed . The earlier models (earlier than 1970) were “Dearborn” units. Very few were equipped in 70 with these & I have had a guy on the fence for it since he found out his Stage One 4-speed convertible was actually a standard 455 GS convertible with a factory 3-speed (critical for the restoration of his car). Just mentioning it in case no one has one for your car & he bows out.
Thank you both and I'll consider it. As far as I can tell I do have an original 3-speed on the floor 67 GS 400 convertible. My 3-speed is not savagable. Here is my console.
Cool, if you have any consolette spare parts please PM me (I restore those and shorty consoles so always need even the smallest parts).picture of one I fully restored below. Thats gonna be a cool car
I have no spare parts. The back of the console is broke, but is complete. Just out of curiosity what would it cost to be restored?
Do you know where I can use my vin# that will tell me what options it came with. It seems to have alot of options and the cowl tag only lists the basics.
Gary - You can check the 1967 GS Registry website to see if your car is listed. There could be some additional info there if you get lucky! http://1967gs.com/67-gs-registry Also, I am interested in your non-salvageable 3-speed transmission, please contact me.
Yes, it's a Baltimore built car. The vin verifies that it is an orginal 3-speed car. It was also higly optioned. Power seat. Windows, top. Steering, brakes, tach, console, remote mirror.
Unfortunately the VIN does not give any indication of the transmission type. The VIN will only confirm that it’s a real GS400 convertible, the assembly plant, and the sequential vehicle number. There were 422 cars with the 4-speed and 90 with the 3-speed manual. The remaining cars had the ST400 3-speed automatic with the variable pitch torque converter.
Gary, take a look under your rear seat cushion, there is often a build sheet stuck in the springs. There are transmission codes in group 2, X=auto, L= 4 speed. This is from a '66, 67 may be different. I have a 66 GS 3 speed vert too, one of 136. Didn't have a build sheet tho (or an engine, trans, hood, or front seats!)
I will get mine out to take pics, but the id tag is broken off, no numbers are on the remaining part of the tag. Maybe someone else knows if there is other forms of ID, but from what I read, the tag is the only ID. If interested. $300 for Tranny, shifter, and linkage
