On my '64 skylark, I have a 4 barrel intake the machine shop is having trouble welding the cracks. So to be ready for this years car shows, I'll put the 2 barrel back on, but carb is pretty well shot. Any suggestions for a good replacement?

If your Rochester is shot and you want to swap it out then I would suggest going to a Holley 2 barrel. They can be built for performance and are often used on local level stock cars. They do not bolt onto your intake but can with an adapter. You could also adapt the carb to the four barrel intake after as well. There are adapters available from this guy. https://brennans-garage.com/product...-to-motorcraft-holley-2bbl-carburetor-adapter

Thanks, would you suggest the 350 or 500 cfm?

I think a 500 cfm would be fine. I ran a 625cfm Carter AFB on my 300 with no issues. You should be able to tune a 500cfm Holley to run great on a 300.

Two BBL Carbs are flow rated at 3" Hg, while 4 BBL Carbs are rated at 1.5" Hg.
This means that if both a two bbl and 4 bbl Carb where rated at the same 500 cfm, then in reality the 2 bbl only flows 250 cfm .
In short get yourself the 500 cfm Holley.

Thanks for the info. My machinist got my intake welded up. Think I'll try that first since I already have a 4 barrel carb.

The 4 barrel for that engine is 450 cfm so the 500 would be pefect. Who needs a 4 barrel?
