So my 67 ca gs is running! It could have been 20 years sitting? I had to go through all the wiring and reset the distributor, I’ve put fresh oil and a couple quarts of tranny fluid ran it till warm and changed it out to fresh again. Oil pressure is good, only running on two of the 4 carburetor barrels. The Quadra jet needs rebuild. But the engine has a rattle near the back at idle. Sounds more pronounced on passenger side When rpm increases the rattle clears up. When the valve covers are off the oil seems better flowing on the drivers side but it is flowing on passenger.any advice appreciated.

That’s not a Quadrajet . What do you mean it’s only running on 2 barrels of 4 barrel? it may need to be cleaned more for the oil your expecting on the other side. Did you get up to full operating temperature? Oil needs to thin out at full temp.

Yes it ran at operating temps for quite a while multiple time now. Not quite sure why I keep calling it a qudrajet, I think it’s the OG carter carb? I’m Not sure but I thought that the primary smaller barrels on carb run at idle and low speed, and when you hit the gas pedal harder it opened the larger secondaries? the secondary bigger barrels do nothing no matter the rpm, no fuel comes out at all. I was surprised the carb worked at all. I just replaced the filter and put an inline fram filter before the fuel pump.

You aren't getting the secondary air valve to open up when revving the engine with the vehicle not in motion. There isn't even close to enough demand for that. It's a very common mistake, don't feel bad. That looks like an original Carter AFB. As for the rattle, I'd suggest just running it for awhile and getting everything thoroughly lubed up. Maybe some Seafoam, but I wouldn't drive it around with that or any thinning/cleaning agent, since it reduces oil viscosity.

There's a hook connected to the choke that prevents the secondaries from opening if the choke isn't all the way open. If your choke isn't working properly the secondaries wont open. Make sure sure everything is moving freely and that your choke oven is getting heat (and your choke heater tube isn't rotted). There is a weighted plate above the throttle plates that opens after a certain amount of air volume moves through them, don't confuse that with the throttle plates.
