Im planning on trudging through some snow soon on the hunt for a fan shroud in a local boneyard that will work in a 71 gs that Im hoping to put a 455 in one day. Can you tell me if a shroud from some other gm car used the exact same one. It seems they would of interchanged these. Right now my search is narrowed to any buick455 equipped car 70-72. But I dont want to pass up what I need due to not knowing. Any help appreciated.

I've never bought one from them but Poston lists Repos for '71-'72 GS 455 and Skylarks at $109. They list a different one for '70 models. I recently sold a used '71 Riviera Fan Shroud for $71.50/shipped. Save yourself from being exposed to the bone chilling cold hunting for a brittle/cracked shroud and take advantage of the new parts that are available.

Carry, I'll be heading to the yards before this weekend. I wish I had known as last time, there were 3 sittin in one yard. (doh!) I'll pull any if I see them and letcha have one for the yard cost. I'd hate to have to pay high dollar for repro stuff when original is usually sitting close by... Anyone lookin for anything else while I'm at it?

TA Performance in Arizona also has the same shrouds, whoever can ship you one for the best price would be the way to go. I've never dealt with Postons but Mike and Dave at TA are great with their customers. Hope this helps, Good Luck!

  6. Scott, I would be interested in an undamaged 455 fan shroud. Any idea what the yard price would be? Or shipping to ND? :eek2:

Yard pricing for shrouds I believe is $20 or less. Shipping, well, they don't weigh too much, just bulky.. Take a guess as to weight and figure from 91406 via your favorite shipper.

If the yard price is too low, realize carbs out here go for 12$, dists $15, comeplete engines $150. Oddly enough, trim has been the most expesive item I think I've purchased over the years. Hell, the 4bbl setup costs me less then $50 and that was with the intake, carb, and a dist with all the hardware.

I will post picks of an origional and the so called reproduction shroud as soon as I can get to the shop. After looking at the pictures, you may change your mind. :eek2: I would get the boots on and attempt to find one at the bone yard.

This is just one of the parts we hope to be working on in the near future with BPG reproduction parts. An exact reproduction fan schroud would be very cool!!!!:TU: Myself, I need one in a BIG WAY........ along with every car that enters the shop for restoration.

  9. Yes, I do need to search the local yard in the spring, before paying to ship anything in here. I'll look for you too Mike B :TU:

One word of warning on the repro items. I bought mine from Poston and on the outside it looks pretty good but the inner area where the fan is, is very rough finished. it is ok for me since it doesn't show too much, but it might not be for someone who is going to show the car. I don't know if other vendors are the same way but that is how Poston's are. Just a heads up so you know what you might be getting. By the way I could have saved the cash had I known that the Electra donor car had the same shroud before I junked it! :( Brian
