New to Buicks so give me a break first off please. I just feel real stupid with these questions. I am searching for a 455 to put in my 67' Skylark right now. I noticed while looking for performance parts in Summit that there aren't too many listed for Buick 455's but a crapload for Olds 455's. Are these blocks essentially the same? Will a 455 bolt into my Lark' easily? Any help would be appreciated because the search is on for big block power. Thanks.

"Summit" is NOT the place to look for BUICK parts! TA Performance, Tri-Shield Performance, Poston Enterprises, PAE Enterprises, are just a few places to try first. Get Catalogs from where you can, so you can research for WHAT you WANT!:Smarty:

    Olds and Buick are DIFFERENT!

A Buick 455 will fit in your '67 Skylark, I wouldn't necessarily say "easily", because I really don't know what is involved for "your" year. I do '70-'72, mainly. I'm surprised no one else has answered you yet. I'm sure there's guys that have '67s that could tell you better than I could about what you'll need to do.:Do No: :TU:

    Ron-

Here's a good links page from this website. There should be links to the sites Scott mentioned above, or at the minimum email and phone info.

And spend a lot of time searching this forum. There is an incredible amount of information about all things related to Buick performance. Before you buy a 455 (if you haven't already) be sur to search for topics on what the differences in the years are and how to tell what year motor you're looking at. In fact, here's a link to a site having casting numbers for the different years.

Also check out the BPG aka the Buick Performance Group. This club is on the move and making things happen. You might want to consider joining.

Happy Reading! And good luck with your project! I know I didn't answer your specific question about bolting up a Buick 455, but I hope I helped give you direction in figuring out.

Post some pics if you get a chance. We always like to see what people's projects are. :TU:

The 455 will fit in your '67 just fine. It is tight. TA has a frame mount / motor mount kit that will work just fine. I recommend buying a complete engine from someone on the board. That way you have all the correct brackets and such.

    Have fun with it!

Wow, thanks for all the quick responses guys! I really appreciate it. I have always wanted to own a big block car and am looking forward to this. Thanks. I don't have a digital camera just yet to post pics but keep your fingers crossed, I am hoping my wife got the hint for christmas.

Hope it works out for you. There are many great people on this board with tons of knowledge and a willingness to help. Don't hesitate to ask any questions no matter whether you think they are dumb or not. What tranny are you going to be using?

I like your saying "If you can't beat 'em, nuke 'em".

    Look forward to seeing pictures.

I don't know too much about Olds engines and how they mount but I would think that they would be similar (Cutlass, 442). If I am not mistaken the distributor is in the back of the engine and it gets kinda close back there. The front brackets are probably different too. The transmission should bolt right up.

That Buick would be much happier with a Buick engine though. My opinion.

    Good luck!
