I'm new to the buicks, but the more I find out about them, the more I like them. I've got a 66 chev fleetside sb truck I want to fix up for street/ strip (playing mainly-ha,ha). It's got a 6cyl in it now that's not worth killing. So I wanted to put a motor in it just for the time being so I can drive it and fix up the body. Then my plans are to build a motor for it. I just recently got a good deal (I think for $300?) on a buick 455 and a/t trans out of an 71 electra 225. It's complete including all the brackets, alt, starter, power steering pump, and etc is still on the motor. It was running about a year or two ago when it was removed. It's been out of the weather, all that I can see in to it looks ok, and you can turn it over with a ratchet. Does anyone have any tips I can try to get it running until I get ready to rebuild it? Also, does anyone have any tips on putting it in the chevy truck? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. :Do No:

Watch TRUCKS today. It should be the same show as yesterday. Stacey was doing a show on how to get an engine going that has been sitting. Excellent info. Basically, you'll want to redo the points in the distributor, new rotor and cap. New plug wires and spark plugs. Then you'll want to really check the carb and possibly rebuild it. There could be a lot of varnish or gunk in there.

Then there is the basic new hoses for coolant and fuel, have a good battery and wiring for engine/battery to ensure good electrical connections.

Of course, new oil, maybe one of those max life ones that supposidely reconditions the valve seals and whatnot. You should now be well on your way to getting that engine up and running.
