Need some help/suggestions. I'm working on the brakes of a friend's 56 Roadmaster with Dynaflow tranny. The Master cylinder has an aluminum reservoir (about 7"s tall). It has developed a hole at the bottom of the reservoir and leaks fluid. I understand these types of reservoirs were found on Dynaflow cars. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a replacement or even have ideas on possible ways to fix this one? Thanx
http://www.oldbuickparts.com/ These people may be able to help with parts. The aluminium chamber you refer to sounds like the vacuum chamber. From my knowledge there shouldn't be fluid in there unless there are damaged seals in the attached hydraulic part of the brake master cylinder. I have had no experience with these particular units and someone else may be able to assist further. It sounds like it is time for the unit to be dismantled and resealed. Ross
Thanx Ross, This type reservoir is new to me as well. I'd not seen one before. I'm sure however its a reservoir for adding brake fluid since the top of the reservoir tank has a removable cap (unscrews) and it says "Use GMC Brake Fluid." Looks identiacal to the cap on top of master cylinders. I may try a heated aluminum repair, but I'd like to replace it if I could find one. Mark
Mark Have a look in the "Da Nailhead" area, there is a topic with Nailhead and parts info. On page 2, post # 33 there is a good list of parts suppliers, and also in the "Vendors section". Im sure someone here will know where to find one.
I may be mistaken, but I think '56 may have been a one year only master cylinder, now worth lots of money...try buickclub.org forums.
Yep, the 56 is a 1 year only item. Your best bet is to try and repair it, as it is going to be very hard to find a replacement.
I have one of these. I believe it is for power brakes only. I'm asking $40 for it as it means breaking up a complete unit. Mike 916/599-3934
