Hello, I bought a '62 Invicta Convertible and I'm now fixing all the issues on the car. The fuel gauge is not working, so I want to remove this part. It seems, that I have to remove the half of the dash board? Now I got stuck - the A-pillar seems to be fixed by 2 screws, but it won't go out. Also the smal trim part between dash and A-pillar won't go away (2 screws). My last idea was to remove the metal part above the instrument cluster, but after loosen 3 screws it seems, that I can't reach the next level of disassembling. I'm am totally wrong on this way or what should I do now? Thanks a lot, Frank
The fuel gauge is doing nothing, the needle stays on the left end. So I wanted to check the connections on the gauge (ground and 12V). (by the way: is there an easy way to check the other end on the tank?) Frank
Got it! The A-pillar has to removed with more power, then all the parts fell off. ... my Volt-Meter is low on battery, so I have to wait :-(
Boy, you really like doing things the hard way! Find the wire in the trunk that goes to the fuel sender. Remove the fuel sender wire. With it disconnected, the fuel gauge should go past full. With the wire grounded, it should go all the way to empty
Great hint, thank you! And sorry, it is my first Buick ;-) And the hard way I have anyway to go. Because I have had to fix the speed warning. Picture 1: I opened the cluster (didn't know at this time how to remove the knobs ... but later) I missed the connection between the gear left and the needle in the middle. Picture 2: but wait! ... There is a connection fixed inside with tape Picture 3: removing the tape (seriously that thing never worked since 1962??) Picture 4: Works fine with this connection Picture 5: After cleaning all the stuff and making it shiny and reassembling Nice experience till now and I think, this car is a pretty condition (till now). Thanks for reading, Frank
The fuel gauge is accessible from the trunk. It is mounted high on the passenger side. You'll see a round plate with 5-6 screws in it, then remove the plate. The sender is under that plate. Remove the wire & see what the gauge does. Shouldn't take more than ten minutes.
