My 63 Wildcat has started to shudder when accelerating 0 toabout 35 and then smoothes out. A friend of mine thinks the CV joint is goingbad. Does anyone know anything about these? As far as I know the drive shafthas never been our of the car. I always assumed that these didnt go bad,(considering its been 50yrs). Any tips, tricks, or diagnostics would be appreciated.

I would bet heavily on U-joints... I would get it fixed fast. They do lots of damage if they break while under power.

Might be a center support bearing on the driveshaft, don't know for sure if the have a two piece shaft or not but the riv does so I would bet yours does.

When I installed the ST400 in my '62, I took my original driveshaft to a driveline shop to have it shortened. Although it all seemed fine and in good shape, it turned out that the center double cardan joint was junk. It ran me about $400 to have it shortened, totally rebuilt, and re-balanced. That's what I would check first.

I think it's time to rebuild the drive shaft. Thanks to everyone.

I never got to drive it before I pulled the driveshaft but the centre bearing in my 63 was shot to pieces. They DO wear out, in my case the rubber perished and the outer and inner parted company.
