I have the opportunity to acquire a tail panel for my project. The panel is is great shape..no pits (no big, no pencil point, no brown haze), chrome shines clean...not show chrome, more like just off the factory floor shine. The painted recesses have faded a bit, but there's no peeling. My project's rear panel is badly pitted.

Here's the catch...I have to buy the car it's on. I'm trying to figure out if the price for the car is worth it just to acquire the tail panel and some front chorme and swap it out with my project car. The car it's on is actually in good shape...no rust, decent interior and a strong motor. The car registers 35,000 miles which is represented as original. The motor's clean, a little faded nailhead green on the engine, but the air cleaner has some shine to it and the sticker is in decent shape. The car has been sitting for a couple of years and I'm probably the only one who's started it in that time. Did a cold crank compression test and all cyclinders tested at 160psi. It's a 4dr and my project is a 2dr. I'm basically treating the 4 dr as a throw away after I swap out some other chrome....I may throw it up on ebay.

Any way, anybody out there that can give me a ball park on the value of the tail panel?

Did you see if Wild Bill has one unattached to a car?

Did you advertise for one under Parts Wanted?

    Jim,

Who's Wild Bill? How do I make contact?

I have a beat up one that I got a quote from a rechromer down in TN. He said show quality $3,600 because of all the recesses. He said he just had two come in.
