Hi folks- I am looking for an air cleaner assembly for a 65 Buick Special, 300ci, (original decals said "Wildcat 310"). Carb is a Carter AFB 4 barrel. I found almost the exact one on ebay, but it does not have a hole on the side of the snorkel for the PCV valve uzzled: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Buick-Wildc...5b700e8&pid=100033&rk=1&rkt=2&sd=271341666372 According to my Buick Used Parts Buyers guide, I could also use a '64 or '65 Skylark 300ci, 4bbl, or a '66 340 4bbl, w/o A.I.R. Just a naked carb sitting there right now. Idles ok, but wants to sputter if you accelerate too hard. Just want to get it running for reliable cruising. Do I have to use an original air cleaner & the PCV setup, or could I find some newer air cleaner and just plug the PCV? And try to tune it as is? Sounds a little Frankenstien. Any ideas welcomed. Thanks! -Movieboards
Agree with Brian, the ebay listing is a '64 2 barrel. Not sure on '65, but the ones in '64 with a hole in snorkel is for an emissions hose for California sold cars. The PCV is on passenger side valve cover. Emission hose goes from snorkel to drivers side valve cover. These are two piece units that use the same top for 2 or 4 bbl, and use different bases for 2 or 4 bbl carbs. P.S. Ya I know, '64 isn't supposed to have green valve covers, but I like it better than the silver HaHa!
------Thanks very much guys. @Mike: My '65 Service Manual shows that exact same air cleaner setup; emission hose into snorkel. That's the one I need. Also, the Buick cops will be knocking on your door soon, regarding those green valve covers @Brian: Does a 355 4bbl have this same air cleaner?
The top is the same 2 or 4 barrel except the decal (310/355). 64 has oval air intake 65 had round air intake. Neither should have PVC filter hole in side.
I agree with philbquick's first two comments. But the last is wrong. He is ignoring the CALIFONIA regulations/ built cars starting in 1964. It is not just a hole cut in the side, but a formed pressed hole to accept the rubber hose. My '64 CAL is identical to the drawing and "Skylark Mike's" pix. A question for Movie: Is yours CAL? If not why not use the common '65 top and use the common rubber plug in most valve covers? Burt
Thanks Burt for your post. That is part of what I was trying to explain and the reason I added pics from both angles. My car was a Cali car too. Also, the 310 or 355 on decal was for torque of either 2 or 4 bbl. Both were 300 cu.in. v8
I have a 65 special from CA. it needs a new hose from the air cleaner to the intake manifold. Any idea where to find one?
