Hey all, I'm a newbie here. I have a friend that is willing to sell me an old '65 Skylark Gran Sport to restore. My thoughts were to restore it and sell it for a profit. The car is in incredibly great shape for it's age, a true survivor. All original, white with black vinyl top and black interior. it has a big block that's painted green from the factory. The exterior white paint is in great shape with only a few chips. The only rust is in front of the windshield. Interior has no tears but is covered with 1" of mold and dust. Black buckets and console with tach. The wheels are 14" with hubcaps that look like spinners. I'm just curious to know the value of such a car? Would this car would be worth more completely restored, or simply clean it up and sell it as an original survivor? Thanks for all the help, I'll try and get pics up this week. -Lance
I'd say clean it up and sell that way. Restoration is usually more $ than you can get out of the car after its been restored. Lets see some pictures!
Ted is WAY right on this point. Bear in mind, when he says "restoration" he means doing it right. ....and where are the pictures. This is like coming home to the frat house and saying "I've got this FINE girlfriend".......so pictures please. Rick
I went look at the car again last night. I think after looking at it and talking to you guys I'll just clean it real good and sell it, instead of doing a full restoration. He told me the paint looked so good because it had been repainted once and a new vinyl top. The interior has no tears but it does have an incredible amount of mold. I think I'll pull the entire interior apart to clean it then put it all back together. It has a Nailhead with working AC. Everything looks original.
Nice car. :beer I don't know Larks that well, but shouldn't there be GranSprt emblems on the quarter panels or below the "Skylark" on the trunk lid? Rick
There are 'Gran Sport' emblems on the roof pillars, and one on the trunk lid. Only convertibles had the emblems on the rear quarter panels. The only thing I question are the front door panels....they appear to be from a Special? It does appear to be an original GS... That is a great find! Good luck with the project :TU:
I agree with George on interior. I would pay very close attention to the under dash wiring and instruments. With that much mold, watch for possible/probable electrical problems. Good Luck on your project and welcome :beer Al
The interior door panels on my GS have the same trim and badging. I believe that to be the interior of the Buick Special the GS was based off of. I have a photo of the door panel at home on the computer, I'll post it after lunch. Good day! John :beer
Only Special`s and GS post cars had that interior, when you had a hardtop and conv`t. this was the door panels they came with.
That doesn't look half bad. I'd buy it, clean it up, and drive the hell out of it. But that's what I do with everything.
