65 Riviera grill conversion for 64

I've seen a couple of these now... 63-64 Rivieras with 65 grills. Apparantly it's a kit whereby the headlights move into the sidelight position (what would be the motorised lights in a 65). Then you just fit a 65 grill to the car.
I'd love to do this conversion to my car but can't seem to find any info on the kit/conversion. Can anyone help?

Last December I saw this customised '63 in Antwerp, Belgium.
Is this what you mean ?

Yes, that's exactly it. Can anyone help me locate this kit?

This might be a silly proposal, but can't you just find good used parts from a 65 and retrofit? I dont know how involved that would be, but seems conceivable enough. I have never seen a "kit" offered before, but then again that doesnt mean one doesn't exist. That would mean there is a repro 65 grill, headlights, headlight motor and all the related hardware (which are hard to come by)...:idea2:

You might check out places like Ranchoriviera. I am sure Larry Daisy can help you with the parts.

    Good luck!

I did think of that... but as you can see from the above photos, it's not as simple as dropping a 65 light in as the actual lights sit behind the 63/64 light grill.
...unless there's a way to mount JUST the lights from a 65 without the motors and keep the grills from the 64.
    Thoughts anyone?

Well the lights don't move, just the doors. Having owned both a '64 and a '65 I can say I like the uncluttered grill better but lots of my friends don't. There is probably a way to sperate the doors from the mounting brackets for the '65 lights and then you use the '64 pod grills with either custom glass under them or no glass and a '65 grill.

Get a 65 front clip. The fenders are a little different on the 65 to allow the opening of the headlights. No kit that I am aware of that is a bolt in like the car from accross the pond. If you want fixed headlights in the turn signal housing you will have to make something work but you can mount a 65 grill in place of the 3 piece grill headlight set up on the 63/64.

I got hold of some lights and housings from a 65.
I had to cut the swing doors off just so I could get the housings and lenses. I can get them in, but there's going to be some fabricating needed. I'm not exactly sure how to mount them.

And Larry, what do you mean by 'front clip'?

Why is it when a person ask a question on this forum do they get mostly opinions and very few if ANY answers. I am also looking for a custom/billet grill. Not wanting opinions just where you can get one. And I have yet to see the questions, answered just opinions about what does and doesn't look good and pictures of what people have seen. I think most know what a billet grill is and what it looks like. Would be nice if the answers started matching the questions.

If you're disappointed with what you find here, consider posting your questions on answer.com or other such sites so you don't have to trudge through all the opinions and misc. discussion. Good luck with your search.

    You are right,

Sorry that I posted those photos without being able to tell where you can buy the actual product.

(But didn't I just answered a question of the original poster by showing those photos ??)

Don't remove anything, Erik. There's a reason sites like this are called "discussion boards" and not "answer boards".

The answer was that there was no kit available. So, now we move on to how to do it yourself. If you got lost along the way, scroll back up and re-read some of the posts. :TU:

No. Don't remove them. Without the photos, I had no idea what he was talking about. With the photos as reference, now I know and if I happen across a kit, I can link to it in this thread to help the OP.

Also, the photos help serve as a way for others give input and ideas on how to fabricate this setup on your own. Now, if I could see pictures of the lights and brackets that the OP has recently aquired, I am sure some of us could come up with idea's to make them work as he wants.
