'65 Skylark owners! Quick Q

Hey all,
I just got and installed a Year One taillight housing to body gasket(s) for my '65 Skylark. Some gasket material protrudes from the taillight housing. Should it be all tucked in? It seems like I need about 8 hands to do that. Please look at your taillights and let me know!!!

I don't think the material should protrude. I would trim it even with the housing.
