yes they are identical as long as your skylark has a crossflow type radiator. early 65's had downflow radiators and the core support is slightly different.

I am fairly certain that the 64/65 Skylark support is thinner from from to back than the GS and Sportwagon due to thicker radiator core in the GS. The Skylark support itself does not differ from cross flow or downflow but the brackets and supports that hold in the radiator are completely different.

I thought the early downflow radiator support used a different lower cradle than the later crossflow radiator. The hood latch support is certainly different between the two styles.

Stanley, I checked last night and I have a cross flow. Will it still work as I have read the support is wider from front to back to accommodate for the thicker radiator. Will I have to make any modifications?? I also found out that the battery was on the left in a GS but I'm thinking it would be if there is a nail head it in?.? Thanks for the info. It is very useful!!!! Thank you!!! :)

Ask a moderator like Flynbuick to merge this thread with the one that you have going in the 400-430-455 forum. That way, you can look in one place.

DeluxeBuick is correct. The core support on a 65 Skylark and 65 GS are the same if it has a crossflow radiator. The crossflow radiator design was not introduced until mid-way through the 65 production year when they introduced the GS (January of 65). 1965 Skylarks and Specials built before that had a downflow radiator in them that used a different core support. The bottom cradle is completely different, the top bar is stamped differently (holes different), and the hood latch/grille support is completely different. The thicker core in the GS radiator is accomodated by a wider top plate that holds the radiator to the core support. The lower rubber mounts actually fit in a stamped section in the lower cradle, whereas the regular skylark crossflow radiator has separate mounts that screw into the lower cradle and hold the smaller radiator.
The fan shrouds between downflow and crossflow are completely different as well on the regular skylark. Never was a GS downflow, so no GS downflow radiator or fan shroud exists.
64 Core support is of course downflow only, and differs slightly from the early 65 downflow core supports--mainly in the headlight mounting area.
