Does anyone know if there is a performance shifter made for the Saginaw trans. The factory shifter bolts to the cross member and everything I see for shifters shows them bolting to the side of the trans itself.

    Hi,

Most do mount on the trans, 66 is different in that respect, there maybe a Hurst design that replaces the factory that mounts similar, but guessing if one exists you'd have to find a period nos part.

Also your Gran Sport should have a Borg Warner T-10, not a Saginaw as those weren't put in any performance GM car, most of the other GM cars used the Muncie M20, M21, few the M22.

Good luck finding a replacement, you may find it easier to just get a newer Hurst that mounts to the transmission like most, 65 Gran Sports mounts to the trans.

    Regards,
    Jim

66 GS should have a T10 trans. Yes the shifter bolts to the crossmember with a support rod to the body, this type of shifter was used in 66 and 67 GS cars, but the 67 version was different, because the trans was Muncie.

My trans has the 7 bolt side cover and all 3 shift rods go to brackets on the shift cover I thought that was a Saginaw transmission ?

You just described a Saginaw. Most Saginaw's, T10's and Muncie's have tapped hole in the side of the tail shaft housing for the shifter. If not, I have seen shifter mounts that U-bolt to the housing and some that sandwich between trans mount and crossmember. I'm sure Summit would have one of those.
