Casting numbers Ted, I checked out the casting numbers in my master parts book for '67, and came up with the following. The book lists the cylinder head numbers as 1377980 less A.I.R., and 1375319 with A.I.R. The book also lists the exhaust manifolds as 1376998 for the right side, and 1378117 as the left side. The carburetor numbers are listed as 7016712 for S.T.400 less A.I.R., and 7016713 S.T.400 with A.I.R., and 7016715 for stick. Did you check the trans for the VIN, the last 6 digits of your VIN will be on the ID tag. This book is only accurate up to Sept of '66. Maybe this GS was built late. Thats the best I can do. Hope I helped a little. If theres anything else let me know. Chris
More numbers My factory service manual for 1967 Buicks (2nd edition) gives a list of correct carbs as: 7027148 400 eng. manual trans. 7027146 400 eng. auto. trans. 7027149 400 eng. man. trans. A.I.R. (smog pump) 7027147 400 eng. auto. trans. A.I.R. (smog pump) 7027240 430 eng. auto. trans. (big cars) 7027241 430 eng. auto. trans. A.I.R. (big cars w/ smog pumps) There are several different head casting # for '67 I think 4 different ones, I have 3 different sets myself, I'll try to look up the numbers and post them. hope this helps,
Found more numbers The casting numbers for '67: 1381824 400 block 1381825 430 block 1374062 intake 400 & 430 heads: 1377979 1377980 1382983 1382985 (A.I.R. has provisions for smog pump) 1372963 (A.I.R. has provisions for smog pump) All of these heads can be found on 400s or 430s. It's not uncommon to see cars that have mismatch from side to side, I've seen two and several other folks in the GSCA have said they have too (including Charlie Evans). Also '67 heads look different from '68 and up, '67 heads are not machined on the 2 center exhaust ports for the preheater pipe that goes up to the air cleaner on '68-up cars. Hope this helps too.
Thanks for the replies! It looks like the block and heads are original but the carb is incorrect. This car was offered on ebay as an unfinished resto project recently, and now is being offered at a reduced price. Still has a bit of work to be done, mosty assembly and detail, but it adds up to a total higher than the car's resale. Still, I have paid others for resto work, and its far less than undertaking a resto from another car. Must ponder this further. Once again, thanks for checking this out!
