I recently bought a '67 Buick, it came with the origional books and protect-o-plate, there are two plates in the book, one for the vehicle and one for the owner. How much info can I get from the plate? is there a place to look it up somewhere? thanks.

The Owner plate should give you the name of the original owner, the zone and dealer code, and the original delivery date.
The Vehicle plate should give you engine production code no., transmission production code no., paint code and trim code no., VIN no., month built code, and option codes.
Some of the information is usually found in a shop manual, or a body and chassis manual for the model year of the vehicle.
Dealer Colour and Trim manuals, or Sales Feature manuals also contain original order and option code information along with pricing.
Trust this helps you out ! :beer :TU:

    Donald - Using your example:

2nd row: unknown L J is 'axle code' ('68 only), month built - 9 (September)
    4th row: ? . . . never seen a 4th line in Vehicle POP.

'65 POPs had 4 lines, '66/'67/'68s had 3, with added axle code for '68s only. :Do No:
Maybe someone with the answer can chime in. :TU:

    additional POP info

Did some research in the '68 Buick Dealer Information Bulletins:
The fourth line on your POP indicates a change of ownership to transfer the balance of the warranty when the car was still new !
In order for any owner (other than the original owner) to become elegible for the unexpired portion of 24 month/24,000 mile coverage, he/she must contact an authorized Buick dealer within 30 days, or 1,000 miles of the date, or mileage when the ownership changed. The dealer completed a warranty transfer form and collected a $2 fee, and submitted the original POP to The Buick Motor Division in Flint, and a new POP was issued.
If the 24/24 period had expired, only the second owner could apply for the unexpired portion of a 5 year/50,000 mile warranty apon payment of a $25 fee. (within 30 days, or 1,000 miles).
That's the information in the fourth line of your POP Donald ! :TU:

Checked my plate this is what I think it says:

    118 PP 4341774227891
    B 315 P
    MM 133 4

It is still attached to the origional owner protection plan brochure so when I read it it is reversed, I do not want to remove it for fear of damaging it.

Thank you Randy ! :TU: that make sense , as I knew that the 1st owner of my car sold it to his parents in 69 or 70 (aprox) while is was going to western Canada for work . And her mother kept the car until 1996 when she passed away ... for the 5/50 do you mean 5 months or 5 years waranty ? At one point I think that the 4th line was for Canadian cars only :Do No: Thank you for the great info ! :Smarty:
Sorry I didn't want to hijack the 67 POP topic , but if it could be some info we could both use while searching ...

@ Bertram my POP is also still attached on the manual , I took the picture then I "reverse it" for the picture you see .

    POP info

Donald - That should be 5 years instead of 5 months (the fingers were quicker than the brain) ! :TU:
Bertram - Don't remove the plate - just hold it up to a mirror!
I don't have specific info for '67 models, but this is your POP breakdown:

    Body Trim - 118, Paint Code - PP, Vehicle ID - 4341774227891
    (VIN - 43417-Buick/Model, 7-Year, 4-Assembly Plant, 227891-Sequential Serial No.)
    Engine Prod. Code - B 315, Month Built - P (February)
Trans. Prod. Code - MM 133, Options - 4 (Sonomatic AM Radio)
Hope this helps - maybe someone with '67 specifics can supply the proper details. :beer :TU:
