Ok so that was wild. I jacked up the rear end to prevent too much spilling, but I guess that doesn’t work. How much fluid are you supposed to lose? Anyways, about to go buy some more #6 finishing nails to have a supply ready. I’m waiting on my digital scale to arrive tomorrow. From what I see, two yellow springs.
John, You're doing great! Keep asking questions! As others have recommended, I would: 1: Get the governor set up to shift automatically where you want it (5000 - 5200) - it's pretty simple to do with weight adjustments 2. Get a bigger tire that will allow you to improve the 60' 3. Get your reaction times so the first digit to the right of the decimal point is a zero Try staging a little deeper and leave on the last yellow. Practice a lot. Be EXTREMELY consistent with how you stage. Have fun!! Pat
Excellent thank you Larry, been looking for this for two days. Also, what do you think of the new best time and how the car is doing?
Impressive John, you have a definite 13 second time slip there with some traction. Lebanon Valley is about 600’ above sea level, so if you ran the car at sea level, it would go even faster. We use to go to Cecil in October and on a good day, the Density Altitude would be negative in the morning with temps in the 50’s. The cars would fly.
I used to have one too, the app eventually failed to work, but eventually I’ll get it. My reaction time average was better last season than this season.
Yeh our cars are becoming more like unicorns everyday! If I see or get a line on any 67 riv stuff I'll let you know. Even if I gotta buy it and ship it to you to make the deal work. Feel free to PM me any parts you're looking for so I got a list to go off of. In two weeks there's a huge 4 day auto flea market that happens every year twice a year and I'll be going to it.
Ok here goes. Scale arrived: 1st inner: 11.34 grams 2nd inner: 11.39 grams 1st outer: 43.36 grams 2nd outer: 43.25 grams Brought the nose weight of the inner weights down to 3.55 grams and 3.56 grams respectively. Using GM's stock yellow springs the whole thing is back together and will be tested tomorrow, unless the thing decides to puke tranny fluid from the crapped out gasket that is holding the governor inside the four bolt cover.
The new 1-2 shift is at 5350 and 2-3 is at 5050. What is next? Could I turn up mod pressure to raise the level that the governor pressure has to push against, delaying the two shifts by 50 more rpm? Do some work with the springs? It's spring time for a reason, and not just the calendar. 1-2 4800 to 5350: 550 rpm 2-3 4300 to 5050: 750 rpm AT THE DRAG STRIP: I also figured out that I was shifting wrong from 1-2 range to drive. You don't need to pull the shifter towards you, just bump it over. That pull towards me caused me to overthrow it twice. I will no longer need to shift when this governor is all set up, but I really have improved the 1-2 shift as well
John, IF your modifying the governor to shift at the correct RPM's in drive why would you even want to touch the shift lever??? Oh yeah I know it's called playing. What I have done in the past is modify the shift lever detent in the steering column so it doesn't move past the "D" position. For it to go to neutral is when the lever has to be lifted. ALL you would have to do is "Slap" the lever with your hand.
Tom is was referring to at the strip I didn’t know how to shift, now I do after practicing last night. And Tom how do I change the detent so that it would require me to lift the lever into neutral?
