'68/'69 GS/Skylark Mirrors

Discussion in 'Repro Parts' started by BigBlock68, Dec 30, 2005.

Are there any manufacturers that would be interested in making making both driver's side and passenger's side mirrors for the 1968 and 1969 model years for the Buick GS and Skylarks?

I have yet to find any manufacturer that makes even the driver's side mirror, and many people would be interested in a reproduction passenger's side since they seem to be such a necessity in today's driving world. Plus many people don't have the time to find a NOS one, and if they do, who wants to pay $850 for a mirror for a car that going to be driven?

I'd like to see "reasonably" priced repros too, for both sides I suppose. However, I suspect that the demand is not high enough to warrant a mfgr making a large enough production run, to make them affordable to most of us that would be interested. Just my opinion of course, but these have been discussed many times in recent past, with nothing ever coming of it. Good luck with this, I'd love to see it happen.

It would be great to see the '68/'69 passenger mirror reproduced but until this body style becomes more popular the reproduction parts will be slow coming :(

I have never even seen a passenger side '68/'69 mirror on a junk yard car even. I wonder why they are so rare :Do No:

I guess back in 68/69 nobody cared about seeing cars coming up on them in the right lane... so they didn't spend the extra $$ to check off that option on the order form. :Dou:

    David,

It was a dealer installed item and could not be ordered from the factory so maybe it was an item that the dealers did not try and push very hard on once they made the sale of the car :Do No:

Buick had to make a bunch of them so that each dealer had some in stock so there has to be more NOS mirrors sitting somewhere, and I hope I find one (not for $500  ).

Maybe I'll try contacting the guys at Cars Inc. over in New Jersey to see if they'd be interested if we could get enough people together and get some demand going. I know they do repros of '65-'67 mirrors already.

I would certainly be interested. Let us know what they say. If you get positive feedback, we can start a poll to gauge the real interest in getting these done.

I e-mailed Cars Inc. and got this response which I think is fairly positive.

"We are considering the mirrors at this time and have them out for bids. We will know more in a few months. Thanks for asking."

So maybe with some polling and getting enough demand going they'll decide to make the mirrors for us.

If the word gets out that they may be reproduced soon you will see a flood of NOS mirrors on ebay

Maybe we should just start a rumor

The OPG catalog for this year has mirrors, gaskets and also aftermarket designs that can cover the passenger side. I'm investigating. But the price tag is hefty.
