    Hi Guys,
    First time poster here.
I'm looking at a '68 GS convert. to purchase. It belongs to a friend who's owned it for about 30 years. The car is very solid but tired and in need of a full restoration at this point. Although I'm new to this board I am no stranger to vintage cars and the restoration process.
    My question is this:

Is there a way to identify if this car had the Stage 1 engine?

Thanks in advance for your input.

the stage 1 option 400 did not come out until 1969
there should be a 2 letter code on the block deck next to where the dipstick goes in. if you can check that and post it here we can identify the engine you have.

    Hi Larry,
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not as familiar with the Buick GS as I am with other cars of the era that's why I've posted here. I found another information site that listed the '68 as having a "dealer installed Stage 1" availability. This is what made me ask the question.
Perhaps the info at that site is incorrect. Here's the link:

I guess I can't submit links yet as I'm a new member but you can view it at musclecarclub.com

Maybe you can check and tell me if they're just wrong and I'm asking about something that just didn't exist.

    Thanks again,
    Greg

The best way is to have some paperwork from 1968 to show that it was purchased.
