68 GS/Skylark convertible top switch

Does anyone know if a rear defogger switch is the same as the convertible top switch in a 68 GS? I'm pretty sure the top switch in a 68 is unique to that year. They're not easy to come by, but I found a defogger switch that looks very similar to my top switch and was wondering if anyone knew if there is a difference.

 

defogger switch stays left or right when put that way ... top switch "springs" back to the middle.

 

Dang. I thought I had found a good deal on something that would work. Back to looking for an actual top switch.

I have used a 68 top switch successfully in my 70 Skylark. The fact that it was in a junkyard car at all amazed me!

Does yours work at all. ? Mine goes down but not up. Is there any way to bench test one of these ? I cleaned the contacts , but still no go. Rich if you find yours I may need one.
