Hey guys, the console lid here appears to have been altered. Does anyone have pics on what it's supposed to look like? And can this be repaired?

    Thanks.

It doesn't look anything like the one on my 68. Mine does not have a button on it and is all black.

That's a 1970-up style lid. Mike Garrison here on the board reproduced the correct 68-69 lids. They are excellent! i think his are $89 for a blemish free one and $45 for a 'blemmed' one.. Which you cannot tell where the blems are!!

So is the lid the same size for 68 and 70? I'm assuming the console unit is a 68....

Console is a 1968-1969, shifter is a 1971 ? (due to black grained handle and chrome indent piece running through it), lid is a 1970-up...

Thanks! I posted some better pics in my first post. I have the chrome running through the handle. There ls also a GS emblem towards the front of the console. The shifter has very worn chrome, hard to see in the first pic i posted in a dark garage. So I'm guessing 68 console with 70s shifter and console lid????

So on the 68s with a black lid, does it have a catch to keep it shut or just a spring on the hinge?

Also, any suggestions for making the shifter handle black again? I'll just keep this handle but want it to look less worn. Thanks!

Also, what's the difference between a 68 and 70 console other than the lid?

Here's the inside of mine. For comparison, I looked at a 68 reproduction from Year One. It looks like the mounting holes are in the same location for 68-72, although I can't verify it. Does that seem correct?

Your shifter handle is a 1970 wood grain handle that was painted or dyed black. If you like the wood grain you may want to remove the black paint. As stated earlier, the console is a 68 or 69 unit.

    Wood grain works for me.

So a nice lid arrived from Mike Garrison at mrbuick.com. The blemished one, which really is in good condition. I also bought a shifter clip from him; fits perfect.

My next issue is the hinge. I think the 68 and 70s had a different hinge as the lid I ordered doesnt quite line up correctly to make the lid close. When I take the hinge out and rest the lid on the console, the lid fits nicely on the console.

    Here's what I have, is this a 70s?
