Is the 400 on the GS400 trunk emblem just chromed, or does it have any black accent on it. If anyone has a good picture that would help a lot. I'm looking to touch up the paint on mine. All the colors are gone. I know the GS is red trim, but didn't know about the 400.
    Thanks,

    No paint on the numbers.

Thanks for the quick reply Dave. Do I use flat black for the black?
    Thanks,

Dan, I'm not sure exactly what black is correct. Certainly not a very glossy black though. I can get my NOS one out tonight and take a look to refresh my memory. I'll bet one of our resident 68 experts here will know though.

They have a semi-gloss black background. If you don't want to go through the trouble of matching it, gloss back looks better than flat black.

Yeah, I would call it semi-gloss black. Not much light reflection off the background on mine. Sure is pretty... It needs to go on my car before the BCA nats in July, to replace one held on with screws. I hate to mount it, my original one looks decent, but the flat screw heads stand out a bit too much. Wonder how I could attach it w/o using the nuts. Hmmm......

Thanks. I think I have some semi-gloss black down in the model room. If not, I'll get some. I wanted to touch up the wheel well moldings also. I'm assuming they are the same color black.

Dave, is there a way to put rubber o-rings on the studs to hold your NOS emblem on? That way you don't need to put nuts on it. Just a thought.

Dan, I was thinking along those lines, would just have to do the swap after I drove out to Rochester MN, maybe 4 hrs. Sure wouldn't want to risk driving without it being Firmly attached! Or maybe it's just plain time to put the NOS emblem to use. I'm sure not planning on selling it. I'm also in dire need of redoing the black paint on my trunk stainless trim, and on the wheel well moldings, and the red on the "GS" emblems on the fenders, and swap on my NOS "350" emblems too... Guess it must be about time to pull off a fender or 2, huh? That'll be a first for me.
