Donny: Know you've left us behind in the low tech world of vacuum gauges and dwell tachs since you're into O2 sensores and computers now, but have you ever put a vacuum gauge on your L79? What kind of vacuum do you have at idle? I see this coming down the road sooner or later, might as well face it now. I'll tell you up front, neither of my cars have much vacuum. W31, virtually none. If an old Olds W car does have vacuum at idle, I'll guarantee you it has an aftermarket grind or a custom grind. Or am I getting into a "don't go there" zone?
Dave, I honestly cannot remember what kind of vacuum the motor pulls. I searched for a spec last night and was unable to find one. I will keep looking........
Best as I can tell from talking to some folks in the S/S ranks, a '68 L79 Nova will walk a '66-7 L79 car...seems the puny Holley is to fault... o No:
Wait, you tell me I did something wrong, and then tell me to chill when I ask what it was ........... Either I did it, or I did not. And, trust me, if it bolts on to a Chevy and you need it, I can find it. I can't promise it is cheap, but I can help you get your hands on it. Please, post here or PM me with your complaint.
Dave, You had told me a couple of years back that Dan & Bob would like to know about the vacuum pull of a W-30. Well, talked to the owner of the survivor '69 W-30 at the Autumn Leaf Festival this year and asked him if it was all right to do a vacuum pull. He said them if I could, just to give him a shout. To refresh your memory on the car it is a brown w/ white stripe, still in the hands of the original owner who was a school teacher. He never modified or raced the car. My main computer is down or I'd post a pic.
Donny, I know where a 66 L-79 is (or maybe had been) sitting. If it is still there it hasn't seen the light of day in years. The guy that owns it has a body shop and it is/was nice. Can check into it.........
Not sure about a 69 W30 automatic, but the stick shift cars had the big radical "328" cam. Pretty sure the automatic cars were milder, sure were from 1970 -1972. Those 68-69 W30 cars are really rare. Not just in original build numbers, as they built more of them than W31's, but seems like fewer of them survived.
when we looked at the car a couple of months ago he told us he wanted $10k for it, that's why we passed.
