I have a 68 riviera...as you know...basically a mix between a muscle and almost a lowrider car...so i want to give it that look. It's lowered just a little in the front in the back. I want it to have rims that fill the wells but dont make it look like a complete lowrider etc. (preferebly chrome or can be polished) and at the same time i want it to have that stance with the large tires in the back that kind of keep it up in the back and sloping down towards the front. Basically i want tires with meat and somewhat larger rims. (no low pro's) I like the look of mickey thompson et street radials but i am having a problem finding the style rims i want that will fit them Any suggestion on a wheel and tire combo would be greatly appreciated.
lovin the coys...but what about the c57's? http://coyswheel.com/index2.html They are about the same price and I love that look too. Chrome or Polished? What you guys think? I dont really know how they look different on cars
nice lookin' BFGs! 245s? cant wait to get RWLs on mine! personally, i like the c5s more. big fan of the cragar look. but the buick rallyes are still my fave, although i wish they came in biggger sizes.
I thought so too, but they said it should be ok, hope they don't pop off! The guys there too couldn't beleive it! I will shine the rims up with steel wool and repaint the black center on the wheels. I noticed that when they unmounted the old tires, there was factory writing on the rims in some crayon. well yup I recommend the rallies! Sry don't want to hijack the thread Notice the prius, the young lady owner was smiling at my car in acknowledgment Or was it cause of my Gas addiction?
Adrian, Instead of spending your money on wheels and tires, get yourself a 1968 Buick Chassis manual. It will cost less, and you will get more than you know from it. It will teach you about how to work on your car. What is more important than that?
good advice Larry (as always) Im taking it. gonna get one AND the rims and tires  http://coyswheel.com/coys-c57.html im thinking 18's in back and 17's in the front. or 20's in the back 18's up front. i just want to be able to put beefy tires on it too what does backpacing do? what do you guys think...chrome or polished?
backspacing (the distance from the inside lip of the wheel to the surface that bolts up to the axle) prevents the fronts from rubbing the wheel well when turning and keeps the inside of your rear tires from rubbing against your exhaust. look under there. pretty close isn't it? many guys have wasted a bunch of cash buying awesome wheels they couldn't use due to wrong backspacing. dont be another statistic!
Looking at tires may guide you on wheel size. I have a '72 riv, runs 225/75/15 as standard tires, and I found that there is very little available for an 18" rim that will give me anything close to the diameter of the original tire, whereas there are many available to fit 17" and 20" chrome or polished? My personal choice is polished because everyone is running chrome these days, I can keep polishing them to keep them looking good and they can be repaired if they get damaged.....scratches and damage to chrome alloys is forever.
have a 67 rivi, aiming for the pro-touring style. put a LOT of research into fitments and looks. after 2 years of thinking and rethinking, MY theory/opinion is that 17x7 front, 17x8 rear is the best compromise. 235-55-17 pirelli scorpions in front, 255-50-17 bfgoodrich g-force in the rear. they are what could be called staggered, yet close enough and "moderate" enough to call "loyal to the original". i believe the originals were 225-75-15. part of me wishes i had just gone 235-55-17 on all 4 wheels, 17X7's. who knows, tires and wheels are always a compromise, i think. but yea, that is my input, 235-55-17 front 255-50-17 rear. DONT go with 18 or 20, they look like dog****, man. leave the turdcutters to the monkeys and pay respects to the buick style. 9 out of 10 members on here will agree that 17 is the LIMIT!! 17 is already pushing the line. try tomsdiscountwheels on ebay, he has american racing wheels for less than half the price of jegs or summit. you can get all 4 wheels for about the price les schwab wants per EACH wheel!!! i got torqlite, but ansens or hopsters look even better, i was just looking for the weight loss. speaking of weight, go polished, chrome is WAAAAY heavy, and even if you dont race <i never race>, the weight will be noticeable.
