I'm looking for (69 Buick GS 400 sport mirrors) for my guy friend. I keep hearing that it is almost imposssible to get the passenger side mirror. I read something on this site about repro's at Car Inc. but couldn't find anything more on it. I'm really new to this GS world as well as internet surfing, so I'm getting kinda' frustrated. Can anyone help me out? I'm real eager to learn. Thanks.

There are no repros available for 68/69 mirrors, either driver or passenger side. Driver side mirrors can be found for sale pretty easily, passenger side can be had... for a price, but they are few and far between.

Thanks for the reply, but where do I go to find one? And do I have the correct term when I ask for a sport mirror? Do they only come in chrome? That's what he has on the driver's side.

They aren't actually called Sport mirrors. The driver mirror was either a manual or a remote mirror, and they are not identical in design. The passenger is manual only. All are chrome. You can search Ebay, and post in the Parts Wanted forum here too. Or search the salvage yards. Nice thing is, all 68 and 69 Buicks used the same outside mirrors, so any 68/69 Buick you find in a salvage yard can be a source for a mirror.

The passenger side will be expensive if in nice shape, unless you get lucky at a yard. NOS ones have sold for several hundred $$$... Most 68/69 cars left the factory w/o a passenger mirror, as they were optional only.

Thanks for your help. I just talked to a guy right here in my neighbourhood. He has a 68 with both mirrors but he said they wouldn't fit the 69. I didn't think he really knew what he was talking about because he told me they only came in the colour of the car. My guy had already told me they were chrome. Anyway, maybe I just lucked out on this one. I wil keep watching this site because I'm finding it all interesting and maybe I can learn something about his car "baby" that might help me "fit in" to his world. When I get a picture of it, I'll post it on my profile.

Just noticed that you said all 68 and 69 Buicks used the same mirrors. Do you mean all GS"s or all Buick, any model?

All Buick models in 68 & 69 used the same mirrors. The mirrors were not body color in 68/69, only chrome. Some 68/69 guys will mount the later painted sport mirrors, because it's easier to find them in good shape, especially for the passenger side. Probably not an exact fit, but workable. Original 68 mirrors WILL directly mount on a 69.

All 68/69 cars left the factory without them because they were a dealer installed accessory only :Smarty: . I would love to have one for my car also :(

Mike is correct, I always seem to forget the dealer supplied them when ordered, not the factory...

I found a NOS passenger side mirror for $850. I opted for a $20 driver's side mirror and spent about an hour on a benchgrinder with it. It's an improvement but not alot of help being that I'm vertically challenged.

Just to clarify, the term "sport mirror" refers to the bullet-shaped, body-color mirror that was standard on the GSX in 1970, and was available on no other model in 1970. Beginning in 1971 they were available on lots of cars. All pre-70 Buicks and non-GSX 1970 Buicks had chrome mirrors.

Well, apparently I'm still looking. The guy with the mirrors in my home town didn't have the right ones on the car. I thought it might be to good to be true.
