THAT'S WHY, Woodie! You forgot to mention it's a FOUR SPEED Console! I've seen the '69 Four Speed Consoles between $600 and $800 even! I agree, that IS crazy, but they are "rare".:Do No: :Smarty: :Dou:

I know, but one can hope to find one for a reasonable price (HAHAHAHAHA). I've even had thoughts of selling mine, but then I would need one.

What makes the '69 consoles so rare (other than the obvious that there aren't many of them out there. I have one out of a '72 GS that I parted out a while back. It looks the same except that mine is painted black not silver. Couldn't you just repaint it? Or, are the '72's just as rare?

I think it is just that so few were made in 69. Just for instance My 69 GS Stage 1 is one of 415 with a manual trans, and how many of those came with a counsle???:Do No:

It's not necessarily the YEAR of the Console that makes it rare, it's more the STYLE (Automatic or Manual) So, again, it's NOT the YEAR, it's just what was AVAILABLE at the time. MOST cars didn't come with Bucket Seats, because there were more "family" cars sold, than "Sports" cars, meaning there were just not as many cars "with Consoles".

For example, if you have a '72 Console (as you say), then it is NOT "rare", because there are THREE YEARS that have the SAME console: '70, '71 and '72!

A '69 Console is a little different in appearance, but very similar to the '70s consoles.:Smarty: :TU: :bglasses:

Are the '68 and '69 consoles the same? I have documentation that shows the following for the "Consolette", sales code B7, UPC D57:

    487- 1968 GS350's built
    1076- 1968 GS400 coupes built
    249 - 1968 GS400 convertibles built.

I do not have the stats for '69's yet...

Thanks for the education. I knew the automatic consoles were quite different in 1969 but I wasn't aware that the 4 speed consoles were different.

I keep hanging onto mine ('72) hoping some day to have a 4-speed to put it around. So far only the automatic on the floor in the '71 Skylark I've owned for 21 years. Sort of a GS wanna-be.

Hey, I've got another question about the 4-speed cars. I seen a few high buck resto's on 4-speed cars. They have all had the shift pattern on the shift ball. The car I took this out of had a plain black ball which makes sence because the pattern is on the console. I don't know if my car was switched or if people are adding the console and not thinking about the shift ball.

I wish I had the car I scrapped today. I think I'd try to save it. Busted frame and bad floors. Lots of dents. But, it was a '72 GS 350 with a factory 4-speed. I got some good parts. The only GS I ever owned. Sigh...

    shifter ball

Hello all, My 69 GS 350 4spd has a black console to match the black bucket seat interior with the black shifter ball and the 4spd pattern on the ball. I don't see any difference between my 4spd console and the later 70 -72 consoles. But mine is black unlike the one on e-bay which must have come in a different color interior car. Got it back for the shop today and it is FUN FUN to drive....:beer :beer :TU:

I had heard somewhere that the 4sp consolettes were the same from 68-72 except for the color scheme?

They are all the same and not all that rare. There are several for sale at every good Buick swap meet. There were probrably 4 or 5 in B.G. this year. I know becuase my brother bought one so we looked all of them over real good. They are not cheap though and usually have studs broken and are missing the boot retainer ring. Nice pieces with working tachs bring $400-500. BTW, the pre 1970 models usually have tachs as there was no dash tach. The later models have the tri sheild cup in them. I think Todd paid $250 for his and it is nice and all there, but that was a great price.
